Would this fitting be suitable to join soft copper and type L tubing to supply hot water?

Yes

Can this be used to join two female compression fittings?

Asked by Bryan August 3, 2019

Answers

Both ends of the fitting are 5/8” Male compression and will work with 5/8” female compression fittings. Washers would be needed on the female side to seal. This comes with compression nuts and sleeves only.

can I use it for connecting flexible copper refrigerant lines for mini-split systems?

NO, THIS IS MEANT FOR SOLID COPPER WATER LINES ONLY.

Do they lock on to the pipe, or are you supposed to be able to take it off easily

Asked by Crystal September 21, 2018

They will come back off of the pipe if you need them to, but most likely will not be reusable. The compression rings are made to be the "compressable" part, and they change shapes doing that. However, you can buy the compression rings only, in the same section of the store where you bought these fittings, and re-use the rest of the fitting with the new rings.

Will this connect 1/2 copper to 1/2 CPVC?

Usable with PEX?

Asked by Retrofit March 20, 2018

Answers

This fitting will not work on 1/2 in PEX pipe, because the inner diameter of compression part for the fitting is 12.88mm, but the outer diameter of 1/2 PEX pipe is 15.88mm. It is possible that part 800919 (Compression Union 5/8 in ) could work on 1/2 PEX pipe, depending on the OD of the 1/2" PEX Pipe.

Worked well to secure the upstream side of the CW line to the new stop 'n waste shut-off valve to the garden hose sill cock. This allows to position the valve handle in a convenient direction and keeps the valve from rotating. I employed a sharkbite on the downstream side. The job was in a basement with a dropped ceiling and the plumbing in the joist space where it's not safe to use an open flame to sweat a joint.
