Questions & Answers

What can I use to stop my gates from sagging? There is a hinge at the top that prevents me from using the cables kit you offer.

I have two large 6' tall gates that are each 5' wide, they open together to make a wide entrance. They are both starting to sag. What can I put on them to stop them from sagging. I can't use the bracket in the kit you sell at the top corners because of the hinge being in the way. Can you suggest another way to keep them from sagging? Thanks, Linda M.
Asked by: LM2014
I and others used a screw through the hinge on the top left instead of the bracket and attached the cable to that. However, I think you might need a longer cable than this kit provides. The cable is 7 ft.

Asked by: TP1953
That might be tricky. If the gate is very heavy, you might need someone to help pull the cable taut. I don't know if it is designed for a very wide gate. You might call Home Depot to check.

My other two gates are 6 ft. tall by 4 ft. wide, and there is just enough cable. You can see in the picture I previously had to cut a couple of boards on my smaller gate and use an extra hinge to stop them from dragging on the concrete. I followed Goyogi's (see customer review) instructions, and Goyogi's photos were very helpful. I had the same problem with the hinge being in the way, so I attached the top left to a screw through the hinge like Goyogi did. This is a photo of my 4 x 4 gate. There is a video my brother in law sent me with instructions for using an anti sage gate kit, but you can look it up online.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works but not for all I saw a lot of packages that were resealed and I wondered why. Comparing to a brand new one all the pieces were there. In fact even the braided wire was still neatly zip-tied and the bag of screws unopened. I wondered why till I got home and started to put it together. The issue is the angle braces. They fit on one side of my gate but the other side the hinge gets in the way. I resolved this by only using one brace and on the gate and the other side I looped it around one of the hinge screws. I could do it better by replacing the screw with a bolt and washer or an eye bolt to make it more secure. See the attached photos It did resolve my sagging gate problem though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the trick ! Used on my very heavy, water-soaked wooden gate. It swings square on the hinges again after this kit and took less than 30 minutes to install. I propped up the sagging (swinging) edge of the gate with a couple of pavers first to force the gate square, then applied the braces and cable. Don't forget to widen the turnbuckle before you cinch the cable. The kit works for up to 6-foot by 4-foot gates, I assume because of the max length of the cable. Mine was actually bigger; about 6X5, but I installed the lower brace on a horizontal support of the gate that was about 2 feet above the ground. Great product for this specific repair job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked as advertised. Lifted the gate so it doesn't sag. I'm not sure of the mechanical principal of this but I guess it squares the gate. Tools needed: The nut is a 10mm socket and ratchet or 10mm wrench or adjustable wrench. The screws are phillips screws. Pliers for the buckle. 7/64" drill bit with drill. I did what one other person did on his review and used the screw from the hinge on top left and the trangle piece in bottom right. Opened up buckle then threaded the wire on to the buckle eye bolt. Tightened down the 10mm nut on the bottom right. Did the same for the wire on the top left. Turned the buckle with pliers so the threaded part of the hook and eye bolt came closer together and was done. Shouldve taken 10 mins but this was my first time and took 30.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 8 Year Fix So Far I had a sagging gate and the wood was great but had developed sag. For around 10 bucks, problem solved. That was 8 years ago and still going strong. Cheap price and extremely easy to install.
