well built, price is on point, great upgrade for any wooden gate! eventually over time your gate tends to sag of the weather conditions. The two hole mounting feature is nice, beats having to screw new holes on your gate. The paint seems very durable, thick coating that will outlast the gate.

The idea of this latch is great, but the over all quality is lacking. The latch kit does come with all the screws you need to attach it to most surfaces. The metal the main part of the latch is made of is kind of weak and and easily bend. The latch also does not latch if you slam the gate shut. I put it on a gate that seems to change in height depending on the season and when the ground freezes.

These are the best gate latches for the heavy "two by four" gates on our deck because they are built to handle the kind of weight that these gates have. We use them in a salty and moist environment and they should hold up very well. We had previously used galvanized hinges and latches but decided to go with these stainless steel gate latches (and stainless steel hinges) because they are heavy duty and should perform well in the beach environment. The self adjusting feature is a real plus as you don't have to set the latch perfectly for it to operate correctly. I hope this is helpful.

Great product! Easy to install, and gives you mounting flexibility, so you do not be perfect in placement on the housing plate and center bar when ling up with the latch. Stainless steel is the only way to go, as every galvanized gate latch I've ever installed starts rusting after a year or two. Not a problem with this long lasting stainless steel kit. I'd buy again, no problem.

When I say would recommed it is with the condition that this latch suite youe particular needs. It just did not work out for me and I will tell why. I was a little disappointed with this gate latch. I got this to replace my rusty old latch that was not self adjusting. There was nothing wrong with the old one except that it was rusty. My fence is about 25 years old so a little maintenance every now and then is in order and this was on my list of things to do. I did like the idea of one that would hold up better so the stainless was attractive. I’ve also had to adjust my old one once as my gate aged. I thought the self adjusting might help with that. The things that disappoint me were that the catch that slides over the bar is VERY thin and light weight. I guess hardware is not what is was 25 years ago. It is so light it has a tendency to bounce off the bar very easily. I think that lightness combined with the free movement of the self adjusting feature contribute to that. I had better luck with the non-self adjusting version of the same latch. The result is you have to pay a lot more attention to assure it latches. And even then it can disengage easily. So you are having to watch every time to assure you get it latched. Even my old rusty one had a much heavier catch and it would latch every time like clockwork. The other disappointment was that the package only contained 7 screws so one was missing. And no I did not drop one. I opened it at the gate and I had concrete under my feet so even if I did drop one it would have been easy to find. You can see in the picture I took of the unopened package that it only has 7. But that is not a killer because 3 screws on one side and 4 on the other hold it pretty well. But I would not go with this particular latch again just because that one piece is just too light and it is justy too much trouble to latch. Also the self adjusting part just ended up making it a little more difficult to get the right alignment on the initial mount (granted it was still easy). So unless you really need that feature it is not really a plus. I thought it would be but it just did not play out that way. I ended up replacing it with the Everbuilt black heavy duty gate latch. That latch by the same maker was a much better fit for my old gate than was this one.

Comprising the latch assembly, the striker bar and housing plate (along with eight screws for mounting the latch and housing plate), this item includes directions on proper installation for either right or left-handed mounting. The stamping for the movable part of the latch (toggle) exhibited some deformation from the stamping operation while being manufactured, though this does not affect the proper operation of the latch. The three latch components and the mounting screws are blister-packed on a cardboard backing which includes the installation instructions on the back of the card. A hole is provided on the toggle for attaching a wire to open the latch from the other side of the gate, and details for installing same are included in the instructions provided. This was replacing an existing, fixed position latch which had weathered and seen better days, but as the hole pattern did not match up exactly new pilot holes were drilled, using a 7/64-inch drill bit as recommended in the instructions. The head of one of the supplied screws did break off while being installed, however, since the other seven screws did not, I would assume this is an isolated instance of a defective screw from the hardware supplier and not indicative of the overall quality of the gate latch.

I love this gate latch except for one thing. The latch part that fits into the hook part stays loose and it moves around too much. I shut my gate and it goes forward too much. It latches really well but it just has a lot of movement because it is self adjusting. I do like that it is stainless steel even the screws. It looks very nice on my vinyl fencing.

The Everbilt Stainless Steel Self-Adjusting Gate Latch arrived quickly and well packaged to prevent loss/damage and all pieces inclusive to attach to doors. I ordered it because of the name Everbilt. I like the self adjusting design but specifically I like that it is stainless steel to last for many years, corrosion free. I will use it on a door that doesn't have an overhang and so it will remain rust free. The quality is excellent and very durable. Easy to attach and use. I like it.

The Everbilt Self-Adjusting Gate Latch is a good fit for my pool deck gate. It latches solidly and securely. I installed it easily and it gives me a piece of mind as it appears to be of very good construction and the Stainless should make it withstand the elements. The price is very reasonable and I would recommend this product for anyone that feels they can do it themselves
