A: When installed correctly, the thumb lever should not fall out of the Everbilt Black Thumb Latch. The latch mechanism will keep the thumb lever in.
A: There is no specification for the thickness of the door. The pull handle is 9" in length and this latch should work with any depth. Use the appropriate fasteners for different gate depths.
A: For the Everbilt Black Thumb Latch, the top part of handle would be installed on the cross bar of the gate (please refer to the instructions video and Home Depot Webpage for this product) by using the longer lag screw. If there was no cross bar on the gate or the gate was not thick enough, below are some options for screwing the top hole of the handle: 1. 3/4” thickness gate: #5/16”-18 x 1-1/4” Hex Machine Bolt with Nut 2. 1-1/4” thickness gate: #5/16”-18 x 1-3/4” Hex Machine Bolt with Nut 3. 1-3/4” thickness gate: #5/16”-18 x 2-1/4” Hex Machine Bolt with Nut
A: I ended up using one of the longer screws instead of the lag bolt because it isn't long enough to go through a 2x4 and fence slat. Kind of a poor design in that regards.
