Screws for the bracket are way too small
We bought the brass handrail bracket, the part that attaches to the handrail itself, uses the 2 smaller screws and the heads of the screws go right through the holes on that bracket.

However, the package it comes in states a rating of 250lbs. I bought these brackets specifically for the high weight limit. HD has no other handrail brackets of this type with a rating over 250lbs. If you need a stronger bracket, you will have to get it elsewhere.

Super-disappointed. This brass handrail bracket product (which I purchased in my local Home Depot...
Super-disappointed. This brass handrail bracket product (which I purchased in my local Home Depot) was manufactured so poorly it doesn't function properly. The rail part of the bracket doesn't sit flush against the rail and there is a significant gap between its two screw holes and the rail surface.
I am pretty sure its lousy manufacturing and not just a perception issue on my part, because the rail part has a curve that looks more like a "V" than a "U" as shown on both these online pictures and on the old brass handrail I have at home that I was replacing.
If you see this part in the store, watch out for / beware that "V" shape. You can tell it doesn't work by merely sticking the two parts together and laying them against any surface without even attaching any screws to anything. Disappointing.
