The spring itself should unscrew from its base. Thus giving you access to the screw. You may want to watch the installation video on this web page.

Mount on wall or on door?

Asked by Wallie December 19, 2014

Answers

Either is fine (unless you have a hollow core door then baseboard is your only option) but consider your location. If high traffic area mount on door otherwise baseboard mounted will be kicked, stepped on, tripped over and ruined. If door swings against a wall where furniture may someday be placed mount on door otherwise you'll need to remove the stop to put your furniture against the wall. I prefer door mount, makes cleaning easier for the homeowner and less likely to get ruined by traffic.

This doorstop works well but the quality of paint on it is poor. I like the spring design so feet and other items wont get damaged by it. Installation is fairly easy, I installed mine over an older stop so I used a longer screw. The screw is inside the stop, by the way. The spring is painted white but a heavy coat of white left a bad finish on it that chips when the spring is flexed. I turned the rough side down so you dont see it but the quality could be a little better on the paint job. The paint also made it a little harder to turn the spring into the bracket when installed. This door stop is made in China.
