The Recessed Dryer Vent Box allows the dryer to be pushed up against the wall of the laundry room instead of having to be positioned 5 in. to 6 in. away in order to accommodate the dryer duct. The box also completely protects the duct from being crushed. When using this product lint build-up is minimized due to the limited kinks and bends.

Can this be retrofitted into an existing Sheetrock wall?

I installed the one I purchased in a new wall. The vent pipe will need to run up the inside of the wall (probably...depending on your application),which may mean you will encounter insulation. If the wall is an uninsulated, interior wall that offers no obstructions, you could run the vent pipe down from the attic to the opening for the vent box and install the vent box to the vent pipe that way. Otherwise retrofitting this vent box correctly could prove very difficult.

As a consequence, although it is an efficient insulator at low temperatures, its use is prohibited in any exposed installations in building construction if the material is not flame-retardant.
