No they are one size. Most people just out blocking of some sort to bring railing out further.

Has anyone had problems with the "U" bracket being too small? My bracket will not go over the arm without rocking from side to side instead of touching the underside of the wood rail on the flat...

Yes I found a solution. To those who think that just ratcheting down on the screws will work, respectfully you are incorrect. All that does is bend the bracket instead of bringing it flush to the bottom of the rail. The gap is quite large. What I finally did was to mount one side of the bracket in a non marring vice and used a rawhide mallet to close up the "U" by pounding down on the other. The "U" is too wide, so you can cheat the extra height from there. Hope this helps someone, especially since the Chinese are not likely to improve the product anytime soon.

Do you have a pole of some sort for a raling ? I want to use this just as a average hand rail .......

Asked by: none
I found four different wood railings on Home Depots web site. The semi-round pole is available in the store that I have used for my deck stairs. I liked the oak railings for the stairs in the house but they had to be ordered on line and took several weeks so I assume they were made to order.

I have about a 6" ledge on part of the side the railing has to go on. (down to basement) Any suggestions as to what I can use in place of these brackets?
Asked by: charzar
assuming the ledge is near the top of the stairs, try cutting a angle (45 degrees or whatever angle works or looks better) at the top toward the wall over the ledge hopefully landing on a stud and also securing the railing into the stud.
