Rusted Immediately
I purchased this product because it was one of the only options I could find for a modern looking gate handle. When it arrived I was pleased with the quality and appearance. However, the very next day after installing it, it was covered in bright orange rust. This is not an exaggeration, overnight (on the very first night) it went from looking brand new to completely rusted. One can truly only laugh at the fact that "Rust Defender" is in the product title.
I like the design of this handle so much I even ordered a replacement hoping the rust issue was a fluke. The second one was covered in rust overnight as well. Everbilt seems to make other products that are able to stand up to the elements, I'm not sure why they could not manage the same here. It's a shame because otherwise this would be a nice product.Â
While minor, it's also worth mentioning that they did not include an angled portion on the gate catch, so that the gate could be closed simply by pushing it shut, instead you have to turn the handle every time to latch the gate shut. This is a simple and low cost feature that again is included in some of their other products. Some baffling decisions were made on this product.Â

"Rust Defender" fails in less than 2 weeks
I had previously reviewed these latches to share some information with other shoppers about whether the handles could be reversed. Within two weeks of installation my brand new "rust defender-coated" handles were covered in rust. I had been concerned that my efforts to flip the handles would cause the interior mechanism to rust - I did not expect, given the description of this product, that all three handle sets would be orange with rust after just a couple of summer rainfalls. I am incredibly disappointed with these handles and advise against purchasing. We just primed and painted the sets with black rustoleum today which will hopefully save this trash from the landfill.

The Everbilt Slate Grey Modern Door Lever with Rust Defender is a great option for barn doors, shed doors, or gates where you need a latch.
The color says Slate Grey, but these really look more like Matte Black or wrought iron. These look great against a lighter or aged wood finish, but could also look pretty sharp against a whitewashed or white painted door.
The assembly is heavy duty and comes with all the hardware needed to install on a standard door or gate. These are also pretty heavy, so they should stand up to years of use without ever getting damaged.
The surface finish is consistent and does not have any uncomfortable burs or sharp spots. The one place where I did have a bur that required some filing, was on the square bar that connects the inner and outer handles. The cut tool used to make the square bar deformed the end badly enough that it would not fit in the square hole in the handle. This was easy enough to grind down to the right shape, but it was an extra step.
Overall, these are a well made set of latches

The Everbilt lever latch is designed for use where unlocked access is needed from one side only. It is an extremely well built product made out of heavy, solid cast metal material with an excellent anti-rust finish that is very important in my Florida climate. It isn’t a simple coat of paint but seems to be a heavy anodized black finish which is also very attractive. I used this latch on a barn feed storage room door where I needed some security but it was not necessary to have a key lock system. I usually enter through another door and only open this door as an exit. It is very easy to push down the lever as it came well lubricated. Installation was simple but came with no directions. It would have been nice to have instructions for different ways to install it. My door is approximately 1.5 inches thick and I had a hard time getting it to adjust down to that size. I don’t think it could be used on anything thinner. Other than that, no problems. I do recommend the product as a well-made, easy to install, and operate lever latch.

Solid quality handle came with all the hardware required as well as a long spindle. It is easy to align and install. I had to install it to a thin gate door, therefore I had to cut the spindle to a shorter size. Also the screws to install the handles are long, so I used only 2 screws from each side, otherwise they would hit each other. The mechanism has good quality spring return. Be aware that you cannot slam the door shut, you still need to use the handle to close the door

Junk
Thin metal and bent the first time the wind slammed the door shut. There is so much play in the opening mechanism that you can't open the latch from the inside handle. I can't believe Home Depot is selling this. You will be sorry if you buy this.

Looks nice, but very cheaply built
It's made of thin metal and will likely bend the first time the wind slams my gate shut. There is so much play in the latch/handle connection that the latch barely moves when you fully turn the lever. Overall very, very cheap quality. I definitely don't recommend buying this lever. I am going to return it as soon as I find a replacement.
