Questions & Answers

Does galvanized steel hold up better than solid brass?

Asked by: OldHomeFixer
Probably not - galvanized steel rusts, brass doesn't.

The instructions are too small for me to see. How do I put it together?

No question about the two bolts, but where do the four rubber and four metal washers and four nuts go?
Asked by: Scotty
It's very simple - One rubber washer goes on the bolt then you push it through the tank. Attack the second rubber washer followed by a metal washed and a nut. The other metal washer and nut go on after you place the tank on the bowl to hold it in place.

Can this bolt kit be used for glacier toilet tank

Asked by: Barb
This is a generic kit designed to be used on tanks and bowls with two holes. If you have three holes, buy another kit and you'll have one bolt and hardware left over.

Wrong picture on package and different directions given?

The wording on the instructions for the kit seem to be correct but the picture is definitely for the BOWL TO FLOOR package, which is SKU 097, I think. Also not clear is the fact that you attach a nut directly on the outside of the tank with no washer? (According to the package, which I re-read through, you put the rubber washer inside the tank and the first nut and metal washer outside the tank.) Then you use the second set of metal and rubber washers per bolt on the outside of the bowl? The Toto toilet I am replacing this on just used one rubber washer inside the tank, no nuts in the middle, and a metal washer and nut on the outside of the bowl.
Asked by: Jacob
Some installers only use one nut. This is better because it is less likely to leak. I bought this set because the ones that came with a float and flapper valve kit only had one rubber washer and I could not get one bolt to stop leaking. The sequence is rubber washer on bolt inside the tank, rubber washer, metal washer and nut on bottom of tank, metal washer and nut to secure the tank to the bowl.

Toilet Tank to Bowl Gasket Kit is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 74.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bolts are longer than my old bolts. Longer will always... Bolts are longer than my old bolts. Longer will always work, but you need a deep socket to tighten. The real question will be how solid the brass plating is. The old bolts rusted out, which should not happen. In one week, no rust yet - but it should be years before I see any issue. All the pieces were there. Not sure why 4 nuts - I used only 2. Don't put the metal washers on the tank side. They go underneath.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The product may or may not be good -- ... The product may or may not be good -- we'll never know, as I'm returning it tomorrow. The HD employee we talked with assured us that this device would fit our very old toilet "perfectly" -- not true! Old toilets need old-fashioned guts. We bought the right ones elsewhere, after much time wasted.

I used this kit to repair a Kohler toilet tank-to-bowl setup that was leaking from the rubber washers. This kit may fit many other brands, and performs very well with little effort.

Bought a set today because bolts that came with a kit I purchased to replace the float and flapper valve (at another store) did not have but one rubber washer and the tank was leaking around one of the bolts. This kit was easy to install and it stopped the leak. I am completely satisfied.

However, the washers and bolt heads on this product barely covered the hole. They could be larger. I had to realign and retighten the bolts in order to avoid leaking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bowl tank gasket Replaced the one that came with the toilet, as that has leaked in the past. America Standard toilet bowl gasket supplied absorbs water and leaks. Needs to upgrade to a quality gasket.
