Can they grow in a very large pot for the first year or two? Will they survive Chicago winter in pots?
Asked by: Ella
Thank you for the question. Though White Pine is a northern species the roots may be damaged in above ground pots. If the pot is placed in an area out of the wind and away from the winter sun, the plants may survive the first year or two. Once the roots reach the edges of he pot there may be some damage.

How fast will it grow

Asked by: Bill
Thank you for your question! White pine is a relatively fast growing evergreen. This starter size plant will establish roots and grow 6 to 8 inches the first year. Each year once it is established it should grow 1 to 2 feet each year.

Can you plant a seedling or potted tree in the same location as a mature, but diseased tree once stood?
Asked by: TG
Hi TG. Sorry about the delay answering your question. I am guessing your white pine died of white pine blister rust disease. This disease is not a soil borne disease and will not affect the roots. It is a stem disease and spreads by infected trees. It is important that any wood or other plant material around the new planting is cleaned up. It should be okay to plant a new white pine.
