Product Overview

Dehydration is the healthiest, easiest and most economical way to preserve foods. Load the trays and set the temperature, the Excalibur dries the contents of all trays evenly so everything's done at once. Dehydration concentrates the natural flavor, sweetness and aromas of your food. Leaving you with a flavor that's far healthier than high-fat snacks and high-sugar candies that are filled with chemical preservatives. The Excalibur 5-Tray Economy dehydrator provides 8 sq. ft. of drying space and is perfect for families with small garden. Includes flexible polyscreen tray inserts to prevent foods from sticking to trays, 5 in. fan, built in on/off switch and adjustable thermostat.

I topped, sliced in half, seeded, and then smoked some jalapeño peppers for two hours. I then neatly spread them on the Excalibur trays and have been dehydrating then at 150 degrees for over 36 hours. They are still NOT DRY ENOUGH to grind up into chipotle powder! Frustrating!

So disappointed. I bought this machine 3 weeks ago. The fan is very noisy and it doesnt seem to heat up to the correct temp. I dried some sliced mushrooms and asparagus according to the book that came with the dehydrator, I ended up leaving the veggies in 4 hours longer, because they didnt seem to be drying like they should have. When they seemed dried , I let them cool and pkg according to the book. 2 weeks later all the veggies were covered in mold. I will be returning and will not purchase another one. Produce is to expensive to waste on trial and error.

Sorry to read your review. Regarding the fan / noise issue, please call customer service. We can troubleshoot and resolve. In terms of the mold, this can happen if the food is not dry, which seems to be the issue. We do recommend using an oxygen absorber if you are unsure. Produce certainly is too expensive to waste, and we do want happy consumers. Regards.

      Cadillac dehydrator for Ford budgets
Excalibur dehydrators are well known for being the best of the best. I'd had my eye on several for the past few months, but didn't want to pull the trigger on buying until I saved up enough money. Harvest season was upon us, and I had saved up enough for the top of the line model of Excalibur, but I did a quick search and found no real difference in features between the high end model and what I purchased, the "Economy" model. Same wattage, same size, same number of trays. I've so far used it to dehydrate fruits and some jerky. It's much quieter than I was thinking it would be. The trays are large enough to hold three banana's worth of banana chips each at a time. It has a dial to control the temperature, so I can ensure that jerky hits the right temp to be safe and then the next day run a batch of fruit and make sure I don't burn them. This was probably my smartest buy of the year.

      Works great
Was a little concerned about how the door seems to just hang on the front instead of sliding into a slot of some sort. The instructions say it is to let moisture escape and that makes sense. Did a great job, my loads seemed to to the longer range of the time but could be I cut things thicker.
