Width in specs says 5.5" at the same time this post can slide over 4x4 or 4x6 which looks NOT correct. What is actual outside width of this post? What is thickness of wall?
The product width is 5.5". It is designed to slide over a standard 4x4 or 4x6 wooden post (not included), which have actual dimensions slightly smaller than their nominal size. This allows for the post to fit snugly inside the decorative stone structure.
Already have a sturdy pole-type post that would be a pain to remove. Would this go over that and work?
A pole much narrower than the decorative shaft would possibly give it wobble room therefore less stable. If u dug deep and filled it in with sand and gravel u could trial it and set it with concrete if it proves to be stable.
I think you need to use a post verses a pole. The pole will not fit snug and thus it would wiggle and move . We love our mailbox, it was been very sturdy and decorative.
Yes, it should slide right over. Mine did, just had to trim the top of the existing post
Yes. I had a plastic post over a wood post embedded in concrete. I removed the plastic one and put this one over top (it is hollow). I don't remember the inner dimensions of this new post, but my embedded post was either a 4x4" or 6x6".
As long as it's a 4x4 or 4x6 post it will work.
