Product Details

The Essential Living Composter is the 3rd generation of worm composters created by FCMP OUTDOOR. The Essential Living Composter offers all the same design features at a budget friendly price. 1) The moisture control water retention channel gathers moisture to prevent the bedding from drying out along the edges. 2) When it's time to expand your living composter a collection of 52 angled tunnels extend down from the base of each tray directly into the bedding of the tray below. This provides ample opportunity for worms to migrate between trays. 3) Aeration is important for happy worms and good compost. A series of support points are molded into the lower edge of the trays. This raises the trays slightly allowing 360° of airflow across the bedding. The Essential Living Composter also has all the features traditionally found in top end vermicomposters. The liquid collected in the reservoir base is known as worm tea. Mix 1 part tea with 1 part water to create an excellent fertilizer for plants. The efficiency of the vermicomposting process keeps typical composing odor to a minimum and allows the unit to be kept inside and used year-round. Constructed from BPA free, UV inhibited, recycled polypropylene the plastic is contact safe and will not degrade if outside under direct sunlight. A:  It comes with enough coir to make the first batch of bedding. You'll need to find another source of bedding material for subsequent trays.

    A:  It can be used outside if it is out of the elements. Placing it in a garage or shed will be fine. If it's exposed to the wind and rain the trays could get very wet, and if the unit sits for too long in the sun it might get too hot for the worms.

      Q:I am doing a science fair project on composting and I need to have three tests going on at the same time. Would it be possible to have three going on in the same time in that composter without them mixing?

      A:  The basic unit comes with 2 working trays, not 3. The trays have tunnels to allow the worms to mix between the trays. The worms moving between the trays is how the composter is designed to work. For your project you'd need to block the tunnels at the bottom of the trays to keep the worms from moving - but that would stop the worm tea liquid from draining properly and could drown the worms.

        A:  Worm tea (compost tea) is the liquid that is released during the compost process. It collects in the reservoir base. It is a great natural fertilizer and can be used for veggie gardens or houseplants. All you'll need to get started is the Red Wiggler worms. The unit comes with OMRI certified coconut fiber to make your first batch of worm bedding.

          Great for beginners

It's quite friendly for beginners as it allows the liquid to disperse evenly so I can have my mind at ease if I forget to water it accidentally. It makes maintenance easy too with different layers. This environmentally friendly bin provides nutritious fertilizer for my plants as well. Last but not the least, its color and size enable it fit the style of my house.

So far, it’s been very easy to set up, and start using. Of course these things take time to reap the rewards from, but if the start up is any indication, I see a great benefit ahead of me with this composted bin! I appreciate the simple design, and the stackable system. I also like the purple color, and the sturdiness of the box. Looking forward to continuing to use this product for a long time to come! And we have already got baby worms! I did not believe it could be true! I am so glad this product is in my basement. We have not had any odors or problems with bugs. It is about time to move to the second tray, and we are looking forward to using the new compost. This is a very fun and practical way to use scraps.

                      Cute design with some happy worms
                      [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The FCMP worm composter is very nice in design. Love how sturdy the materials are and how it looked indoors. However, this composter is a bit of a reach for big produce scraps so should be used in small quantities at a time. With any worm composter there will be some worms that will escape so use caution on that. My cats seemed to have interest in hearing these little ones move about. The worm glue dispenses!

The color and the shape alone make it a fun addition to the garden area. I got this at the start of fall so am holding off using it until the spring time but the setup is super easy to use!
