Is there any padding on the bottom?

Asked by: Jeff
There is a rubber backing, but I wouldn't call it "padding", even though it is pretty thick.

Can these be washed in the washer?

Asked by: Chippy
I would say no. The thick backing could damage your machine.

Customer Reviews

In The Deep Titanium/Bone 19.7 in. x 19.7 in. Carpet Tile (6 Tiles/Case) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I was looking for After slipping on my wood stairs numerous times, I was looking for an alternative to leaving them bare or having to carpet them entirely. I couldn't find any stair treads that I liked, or ones that would fit, so I decided to get these tiles and cut them up. They work perfectly. While these tiles stay put on a flat, smooth surface if you're installing them the way they're intended to be installed, I used carpet tape to secure them in my application. The back is a thick rubber material to keep the tiles from sliding around and also keep spills from seeping through your carpet and down onto your hardwood floor. That's a downside of regular carpet, especially when you have kids and/or pets. The carpet material is nice and soft with a tight weave. The thickness of the carpet is about 3/8". I only had a few stray pieces taking them out of the box and even when cutting them so they're in there nice and tight from what I can see. While the quality is great, I do think over $100 for only 6 tiles is a bit high.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flexible Carpet Option This carpet system is flexible for customizing an installation. Sticky disks hold the sections together pretty well, but I noticed they began to peel up when I relocated a carpet section. Down on the ground, though, they hold together well. The lines between the tiles mostly disappeared after vacuuming. The system allows the user to create patterns using different carpet colors, and the installation process goes quickly. Extra sticky disks are included when a section needs to be removed for cleaning or replacement. The carpet tiles are plush enough, but not too deep. This is a nice system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mix-n-Match I got a bunch of different tile sets in different colors, so I'm going to provide a color review as well as a general review of the "In The Deep" tiles. You can see my other color reviews for: Titanium, Slate/Bone, Titanium/Bone, Frost, Mink/Bone, Mink. And if you're looking to mix-and-match like I did, the Titanium, Titanium/Bone, Slate/Bone and Frost all look great together, but don't mix with the Mink, Mink/Bone. Too much brown in the Mink. I'll start with the review of the color: Titanium/Bone is a mix of a cream color and a dark gray color. This one and the Slate/Bone are my two favorite colors. The "snow" effect makes it easy to conceal dirt and any carpet threads that come out aren't as noticeable. And my review of the "In the Deep" style carpet tiles: These were super simple to lay down and set up. I laid out all my tiles, was easily able to rearrange, and then stuck the circles underneath to get them to stick together. Although the circles aren't totally necessary as these have a heavy backing that is some-what rubberized to prevent them from sliding on our cement floor. They are about a half-inch thick, but they aren't too padded. And I love the fact that if I do get any of these dirty, I can easily lift up one tile at a time to clean or replace. They were also easy to cut with a razor. Cons: They seem to be shedding. I'm hoping that they will stop shedding after initially being installed. And if you were to use these as an area rug, the edges aren't bound. Because of how "sturdy" these are, you could potentially stub a toe on the rug! These are probably best for either wall-to-wall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for a "DIY" area rug! This product is amazingly made and VERY high quality. That being said, it is not for the budget conscious. It comes in a 6 'tile' box. Each tile measures 19.7". If you are looking to do a larger area or room, this may not be the way that you would want to gravitate to as far as costs go, as it is a bit pricey compared to other carpet products. To throw out a measurement of say a 5x7 rug, you'd need two boxes (as each box contains 6 squares), and that does get a bit up there in cost, so you need to consider it when making a choice on what to use. THAT being said, the great thing about FLOR carpet tiles is that you don't need to use padding, or underlay of any sort, (so this does save you money!)! They include these circular 'sticky dots' that keep your 'carpet tiles' together and on the floor where you want them to stay. These dots certainly help out if you are making an area rug in different shapes or in different color tiles. Just make sure that you have your carpet tiles exactly where you want them before you apply the sticky side up side of the "dot", because once you have the dot in place on the bottom of the carpet tile, it's going to be staying there - moving it to change position or likewise, is not going to be possible (again the beauty of these dots is that it keeps your tiles together in one piece to act as a whole rug once they are in place). What I really liked about the FLOR carpet tiles is that I could make up my own area rug based on the colors that I wanted to choose - they look really nice placed into different patterns to suit your own needs. I played around with my tiles until I found the exact way that I wanted them to be placed and arranged. Their website (FLOR.com), has some really fantastic ideas and patterns laid out along with how many 19.7 inch squares you'll need to 'build' your own rug depending on the size. All in all it is a very barefoot worthy carpet, that feels baby soft to the touch, but is definitely a strong product that will hold up for many years to come!
