AnswerThe *sample* I received has some texture...it isn't like the mountain range on a topographical map or anything, but you feel it....if you like the counter I'd suggest an inset or a pad for a drawing area.

These samples are a great way to get a feel for what you might want...I was looking for a faux slate look similar to a counter product made in the late 70's - early 80's and this fits the bill fairly well...acceptable slate-look and some decent texture, though I am not sure the sample texture perfectly mimics the actual product the sheen and color is close to spot-on...just enough gloss where I found others I looked at to be too shiny.
