I only gave it 4 stars since the door lock/bolt was installed improperly. The knife/bolt would not open past the striker plate since it struck the inside of the plate. I had to force the handle open with Channel-locks. The lock employs a knife/bolt which is not sprung and attaches directly to the handle. The door knife bolt struck the bottom, after forced open, of the frame striker/receiver plate. Once I forced it open, it would not re-engage without modification. To be clear, forcing it open did not make subsequent modification necessary rather the striker plate was installed about 1/8 inch too high in the frame. I was on the job site and had to take a couple of hours of MY time to go back to the shop to lower the strike plate in the frame so the knife could easily be engaged and release as designed. The unit itself is a very good solution and fit easily between the 24 inch on center knee wall studs. I would likely buy it again but would certainly closely inspect the door handle mechanism before leaving the shop.

This door is really bad. The hardware requires you to be as strong as the hulk and the parts are I’ll fitted. For example the hinge did not work when i first purchased and needed adjustment so it would clear the frame.

The unit fit well into the rough opening, was easy to attach with shims and construction screws, weatherstripping is nicely done. Overall the door works well, seems to function just as intended, i.e. occasional access through a knee-well. It's easy to open and close, and closes securely with the provided latch-and-handle. Easy to crawl through to get at the wiring and other things behind the attic knee-wall.

Latch can get a little sticky, but overall very happy with the product. Seemed to be the only one out there on the market that is insulated and can be installed in a second floor knee wall.
