Not in love with this one.
We were having our roof replaced so we thought it would be a good time to replace our skylight. We needed a large size to replace old crank model and Fakro had a size that was similar. We loved the idea of solar powered and looked forward to adding a Z wave hub and using voice commands. So the decision was made. Purchased it through Home Depot and paid to have it shipped directly to the house. Roofers worked along side with the Skylight guys as they installed the Fakro FVS and things seemed to go well. The first thing we noticed is that the skylight barely opens. We thought the installer did something wrong. After scouring the websites and going Google crazy I decided to contact customer support. To my disappointment they confirmed that the skylight only vents 6”, yes six inches… and the reality is with the drip guard hanging down you will have about a four inch opening. : ( We have Velux in our bathroom and it vents twice as much. We decided we would try to give it a try. We don’t have AC so the idea of letting the hot air out was the whole idea behind solar venting. But now we move on to the next big problem. Today it is around 80 degrees out with perfect blue skies and the rain sensors keep closing the skylight. Yes, every time I open it, two seconds later it closes. I’ve tried the double click up. I’ve tried the stop as it’s going down. But in the end it just closes. When I go to the Fakro troubleshooting video it tells me to go dry off the rain sensors. It hasn’t rained and last time I checked it is about 16 feet out of my reach. I’ve paid to have it installed, now what?
