After you unlock the ladder door with the rod, how do you lower the door??
Asked by: Cathy
When you turn it to unlock, the rod stays in the lock until you turn it back to "locked." You use the rod to pull it down to where you can reach it, twist the rod to remove it, then lower the door the rest of the way. It's not hard at all.

I have just enough room to fit the 47" length. The video shows the ladder folding out apparently farther than 47". Is this correct?
Asked by: CM
This model has outside frame dimensions: 22"x46 5/8" so 47" long opening will work perfectly

I don't remember if it came with the wood screws to mount the box to the rafters, but the rest of it is pre-installed.

Does this ladder kit include everything for a new installation into a new ceiling? Or will we need wood and hardware to cut and frame the new access hole before installing the ladder?
Asked by: E3927
You will need wood and shims just in case there needs to be adjustment in the opening

LMS 8 ft. 11 in., 25 in. x 47 in. Insulated Steel Attic Ladder with 350 lb. Load Capacity Type IA Duty Rating is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 106.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Ladder Well built ladder that is very solid. Door is thick and is not flimsy at all. The metal ladder is not going to break under heavy load. The opening is large and will allow items to fit that won't fit with smaller ladders. I deducted a star for quality because mine had a crack along the one end that I had to repair myself, but it wasn't that big of a deal. a few things to note when cutting the legs to the proper height. first make sure the ladder is fully pulled as far away from the door as possible (the bolts are loose by default). this creates slightly more room for your feet. then, move the up/down adjuster so the ladder is as far up as possible. this will allow flexibility later in case you have to elongate the ladder later on. you can always cut off more, but you can't add on. also take note how the plastic feet are made. unlike wood ladders, you cut this one straight across because the feet are angled to compensate for that. just make sure to measure everything correctly (measure 2, 3, 4, etc times before cutting).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Farko Attic Ladder-Good product I had to special order this ladder off the Home Depot website because the in store models were too big for the space I was trying to install the unit, which was also in a tricky spot in our house, above the basement stairs. There was a previous opening there for access to the attic, but the swing clearance was only 60-66 inches with a door there. When I looked up this model, it had everything we needed. Solid metal ladder, smaller in length that allowed a smaller swing clearance, and I like the fact that you have to put in a tool to open it. It comes with a rod that you insert in the door, twist and open. Good for anyone that has young children or teenagers that like to be explorers, with most traditional attic ladders that just have a pull down knob that allows easy access. Product was installed in a few hours by a couple of novices, considering the tough spot of an installation. Shipping was quick, with product arriving only 3 days after purchasing online. Very happy with the product and anyone who buys it will be too!

In very good condition and fairly easy to install. Have not gotten to trim the bottom yet to fit the the length. Till we finish floors. But yes love my ladder.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nicely manufactured I chose this out of a long list of attic ladders because its dimensions fit the construction of my house. It arrived very quickly and the first comment from the delivery man was in regards to its weight. True, it is heavy, especially when one is trying to install it alone. I found it to be well constructed of very nice materials. After I built the opening in the ceiling of a hallway, it only took 45 minutes to put it in, but only after ignoring most of the instructions for installing it. The instructions are in very detailed pictures and diagrams, no words, but they are based on the supposition that it is to be installed in new construction, not retro-fit. That takes some thinking and I do not recommend anyone to try to do it without help, though it can be done. It works well and is very solid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Ladder, but.... The metal ladder is outstanding -- sturdy and appears durable. However, the width was disappointing. At 6'2" and 220 it feels tight (my bad on purchase, I suppose). But nothing that significant, just something to think about when you purchase. My only issue with the product is the latch... while no issues yet, it seems shallow, insubstantial and I suspect future issues. My biggest issue was the the installation "instructions." They were all illustrations with no words. Really?! I am of below average skills and thanks to YouTube (not these silly "instructions") I was finally able to figure out the installation. The instructions were horrible, in my opinion. Those relatively minor issues aside, I am happy with this product and thrilled with the new storage space it has provided my family.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to lower and raise My Fakro Insulated Steel Attic Ladder is a great replacement for the old wooden attic stairs. These are much lighter to raise and lower and are much sturdier to climb especially with a load in your arms. I have an old house so also wonder if things will fit correctly and these stairs fit lovely in the space. It took 2 men just 4 hours to remove the old stairs and install the new ones.
