Q:The bulb for INSIDE my GE microwave/convection oven takes a 20W G8 bulb. Would this LED bulb work for that purpose, or is it too hot for an LED type bulb? I imagine it is, but wanted to ask to be sure.

Answer This Question
A:Â Thank you for your question, please check your appliance manual for recommended bulb type and specs. Many of the ovens are not compatible with LED bulbs because of the low/high settings, normally incandescent or halogen bulbs work best with these types of appliances.

Great Bi-Pins
The Feit Electric 25 watt equivalent T4 G8 Bi-Pin base dimmable LED light bulb in Daylight are the perfect replacement for old bi pin lights. The hardest part of replacement is trying to find the exact size or width of the bi pin. Many give you the size most don't. I love Feit and use their LED light bulbs as often as possible. Once installed you never need to change them out again. I like their quality.
It gets warm for about 3" around the heater, and that's about it. I tried following others' suggestions and blowing low power fan across it to move the heat. Didn't help. I've got it in an insulated room ~ 500 sqft that only has one vent, so I wanted this heater to help take the chill off in the winter. It fails entirely.

Great, until it violently exploded
It lasted about 12mo (considerably longer than the alternatives). It went out with a loud pop that made me run over to unplug the lamp. On the fence about what I'll replace it with.

As bright as 20 W but MUCH LESS HEAT
As bright as 20 W but MUCH LESS HEAT! Used to replace bulbs that were burning out way too quickly for the puck lights I purchased at Home Depot... These bulbs are rated to use $0.24 per year, average usage, and use only 2W electricity!
They are MUCH cooler than the bulbs we are replacing, and just as bright!

It fit exactly as the original bulb. Love it's an LED. Much brighter then the original bulb.

Quite a bit brighter than the Samsung OEM 20-watt bulb it replaced. That’s not bad, but unexpected. Now one side of the Range is brighter than the other. I’d replace both, but it was a bear to get in. I took the dead OEM bulb out and put it back in several times, to get a comparison. Not close. The Feit was much more difficult. I filed the pins to remove burrs and used dielectric grease. Still difficult. But I had to have one. Got it installed and it does work fine. Without alternatives, I’d get it again.

This was purchased for use on an over-the-range microwave. The silicone that the boardset is potted in had to be trimmed somewhat to fit into the socket designed for a traditional bulb. The base needs to be thinner to allow for fitting into a recessed socket. In my application, I really only need the LED on one side but there are four on both sides.
It puts out a great light. Nice an bright and definitely on the cooler white spectrum being 3000K.
The biggest issue I have had is that even though they are listed as dimmable, in my application, when the GE Microwave goes into 'nighlight mode' the lights do dim, but have a very noticeable strobe effect. It is high frequency and could almost be desribed as a "quiver". Besides that, good bulb. How will it do with the heat in my application? Time will tell.
