Questions & Answers

How many CFM?

Asked by: Craig
Due to the nature of what this product does and how its installed Field does not publish CFM ratings. The volume of air it moves would be regulated by the air shutter on the burner, the amount, length and diameter of the vent material as well as other factors. So instead they rate it in terms of input BTU of fuel it can handle. For example if this power vent unit were to be utilized on an oil fired appliance in conjunction with a 1 Gallon Per Hour Nozzle, you would know that the input was roughly 144,000 BTU’s worth of fuel. Therefore the appropriate diameter vent pipe would be used and when the draft test was done the air shutter would and barometric damper would be dialed in by way of combustion test equipment so that the proper draft was created. This is further detailed in the two PDF’s found under the header “Info and Guides” on the home depot product listing page.

Would you be able to use this on a standard hot water heater to vent through a wall?

Would you be able to use this on a standard hot water heater to vent through a wall?
Asked by: Jb
Most hot water heaters do not have a power supply. The thermal couple converts the heat of the pilot into millivolts of electricity which operates the gas valve. So to use this with a conventional hot water heater you would need a special relay. Given the cost of the power vent and the relay it is usually much less expensive to buy a new heater with a factory installed power vent. I have no known anyone to do it this way in over a decade.

Can this be used to vent a propane boiler furnace ? The one that is already being used is 18yrs old.

Model SSGII-4HD 115VAC 60 HZ 1.77AMPS 3000RPM conforms to JL378 draft equipment
Asked by: Bette
Yes it used in powerventing appliances such as propane boilers. However I can not tell you if it is the correct power vent unit for your appliance, as I do not know what boiler you have, the nature of the installation or code in your specific area. I would recommend you you speak to a licensed plumber or the code enforcement official, AKA the inspector in your area. Please also note you will most likely need a control module and proving switch so that your unit can turn this on and prove draft prior to the appliance firing up.
