Absolute Garbage -- Do Not Buy!
This product is dangerous and should not be used in a fire pit. It crackles and pops like popcorn and explodes when exposed to flame. If customer service responds and tells me it only explodes when it is wet; I will call them out on their response as I kept the flame at its lowest setting to "dry" the moisture out. Pieces of lava rock are exploding and landing over 10' from my fire pit. Several pieces landed on adjacent patio furniture and burned holes.

Insufficient lava rock coverage
The particular fire pit I bought was ordered through Home Depot. The information page included additional materials that others had purchased. Regarding the red lava rock, it was suggested to purchase 10 pounds. Actually, it took a total of 40 pounds to cover the burner!

Exploding rock
We bought this lava rock for our gas fire pit in February. It worked great until July, for some reason the rock started popping and loosing its color. This makes me believe that it is not actual lava rock.

Lava rock would only change color if the air mixer vial is not mixing the air and gas properly, and in this case we would recommend you contact a local licensed plumper. Also, Lava Rock would pop if there is water or any type of moisture within it. You would need to need to dry them off by burning it off on low heat for 10-20 mins before reusing.
