Product Overview

  • Utilizes both ionization and photoelectric smoke sensors
  • EZ access battery door
  • Batteries Included
Dual sensor technology is the preferred choice of fire service professionals for its ability to detect both flaming and smoldering fires. Ionization technology smoke detectors are generally more sensitive than photoelectric technology smoke detectors at sensing small particles, which tend to be produced in greater amounts by hot, flaming fires that are consuming combustible materials rapidly and may spread quickly. Photoelectric smoke detector technology is generally more sensitive than ionization smoke detector technology at sensing large smoke particles, which tend to be produced in greater amounts by smoldering fires, which may smolder for hours before bursting into flame. With this fire alarm, you no longer need to choose just one technology. This unit is powered by 2-AA batteries (included), and features intelligent sensing technology which reduces non-emergency or nuisance alarms. This product is also backed by a 10-year limited warranty.
  • 2-smoke sensing chambers, ionization and photoelectric for maximum fire detection
  • Intelligent sensing technology reduces non-emergency or nuisance alarms
  • Single button silence/test mutes unwanted alarms
  • Operates on 2-AA batteries (included)
  • 10-year limited warranty

Questions & Answers

Do both sensors, photoelectric and the ionization, have to trip in order for the alarm to go off?

Asked by: MrsG
No. Either sensor tripped will set it off. That is why it is recommended - one sensor is more sensitive to hot fires, other sensor more sensitive to slow fire - with dual sensor you have higher overall protection. See Consumer Reports for more detailed explanation.

I'm finding that some alarms don't audibly notify you when the batteries are dying or dead. Does this model?

Asked by: Question
Yes, low battery audible chirp. Also has a low battery latch to easily identify which unit requires a new battery.

Is it fine to use rechargeable batteries with this smoke alarm?

If it's fine to use rechargeable batteries, do they have to be a particular type (e.g. made out of NimH), or are there any types that should be avoided? Any info would help. Thanks.
Asked by: Supersan77
Literature clearly issues a WARNING! DO NOT use rechargeable batteries.

How do I install this? What is the battery life?
Asked by: melvin
There are very good installation instructions included with the alarm. Per the NFPA, the battery should be replaced every year.

Battery Operated Dual Sensor Photoelectric and Ionization Smoke Alarm is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 88.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good product Like the dual capacity ion plus -2 sensors. Ok to put up, install. Fit adjust old ceiling brackets, so, no need to place new screws. The new battery compartment that pulls out to replace battery us poor design. Very difficult to remove batteries on install steps. Would be probably impossible to change batteries by using little drawer compartment, when overhead on ceiling. Hard to figure out how to get batts out of "drawer". Used a narrow letter opener to gently push battery out at a certain place in drawer. Takes some fiddling around to get the correct move to remove the battery. A good alarm, with VERY INCONVENIENT USER BATTERY REPLACEMENT PROBLEM!!

I am taking this on vacation to a foreign country where fire safety is inconsistent. I plan on adding it to existing detectors in my home when I return. I like the fact that it detects flames or a smoldering fire. It's a standard size smoke alarm but will be light enough to hang from a hotel room door. It also takes regular batteries and not the lithium type so it can be packed in checked baggage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This product needs to be in stores As a retired firefighter and home fire safety educator, I am dismayed at the lack of quality fire/smoke detection products carried in-store. This particular unit is a dual sensor, meaning it can detect smoke/fire in two different methods, thereby giving a homeowner a greater level of security. Nothing beats an overall fire safety plan, but fire/smoke detector units like this are a big key in that plan. As for the detector itself, I like the fact that it uses AA batteries and is very easy to install. If you haven't replaced the fire/smoke detectors in your home within the last ten years, you NEED TO DO SO! Technology changes and the newer models are much more efficient than older ones. Remember, the life you save may be yours or your loved ones!

One is installed in a stairwell near the kitchen, and another at the top of the flight of stairs. We have a gas range. When I'm cooking, the alarm will go off. Mostly it's when I'm broiling a steak or some fish, but sometimes other cooking will do it too. We've nicknamed it the "dinner bell" since it happens so often. Sometimes the one at the top of the stairs goes off too, but less frequently. I have tried pushing the silence button, but sometimes it doesn't remain silenced for long enough. I have to pull out the battery tray to really get it to stop. I hope I don't forget to push it back in. I do not remember having this problem nearly as often with our prior smoke detectors (only ionization sensor). I would think that they could have a detector that would know the difference, but I guess one that is too sensitive is better than one that isn't sensitive enough.
