I acquired it to use for forging knives. After looking at the "traditional" hammers costing hundreds of dollars, I opted for this inexpensive model and so far so good. My only concern is the fiberglass handle melting due to the heat. Not sure if I can replace it with wood but I'll cross that bridge if ever needed. The handle feels good when using the hammer side but it feel backwards when using the peen. It seems setup for the hammer side and not so much for the peen side. Oh, and most forging hammers employ a cross peen instead of the straight peen. Why? I haven't been at it long enough to discover why this is. But overall, this inexpensive hammer gets the job done. I might eventually reshape the head to make it rounder which should take off some of the weight. 2.5lbs would be ideal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, event for non-destructive tasks My wife needed a good heavy hammer for driving "for sale" signs into tougher earth or frozen yards. This fit the bill perfectly - nice large striking surface, not too long a handle, and the right weight. I'm not afraid she'll miss the post or let go and have it fly through the seller's window. The handle absorbs a decent amount of shock too, so it should be very comfortable for her to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A powerful little sledge hammer!!! I already own the 10 pound sledge hammer by Fiskars and I am very happy with it. This is a 3 pound smaller version of the big hammer. There is extremely little shock when you use this hammer. I have used it to set splitting wedges to split stumps for removal and this hammer really does the job. It is the high tech handle that keeps the shock from transferring from the head to your hand. The hammer head is also high tech in the steel that is used and the shape of the head 2 sides, one for hammering and one for splitting rock. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HAMMER TO ANYONE!!! AS ALWAYS WEAR EYE, HAND, AND EAR PROTECTION.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Design and Most Comfortable First. It's a good looking hammer. But, it's the best design and most comfortable hammer I've used. The rubber sleeve and handle sure take a lot of the vibration and shock out of it, plus it's easier to hang on to. It sure is easier on my joints and bones. This one has a larger face on it, which makes it easier to remain on target with each blow. The other side has a nice wedge shape to it, which comes it handy. It comes with a lifetime warranty and hey, it's a Fiskars so, you know it's good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very solidly built hammer at a good weight for my use. Comfortable in the hand. I have a 2 lb hammer I've used for a long time and I wanted something a little heavier for things like driving stakes and form pins in brick hard ground. I looked at some 4 lb hammers and they were just a bit more than I felt comfortable one handing. This is the perfect size and weight for my purpose. The handle is short but that is OK since I normally choke up on the long handle of my other similar hammer a little. The grip on the handle is nice because it is a tacky rubber that is easy to keep a firm hold on. The handle is very comfortable to me. The head has a noticeably larger striking area than my 2lb hammer and larger than some of the 4 lb hammers I have looked at. This was something else I found to be an attractive feature in the design. That was a big plus to me. The warranty tells you something about how the tool is built to last since it has a great warranty. It has the feel of something that should last a long time. I doubt I'll ever use the peen side. That just is not something I normally need so the flat side design was where all my interest lay. For my purposes this is a well built, well thought out little tool. You'd think someone that actually uses one of these aided in the design. It's good to see some real thought go into the making of a tool. Even something as simple as a hammer can benefit from a little thought going into the design. The label claims it is 2x better at absorbing shock so the hand does not take as much of it. Given the feel of the rubber in the handle I can see where that may well be true. I can't offer some scientific gauging of it at 2x but I can say I find it a very comfortable hammer. At 54 I don't have the same grip or strength I once did but I am plenty comfortable hefting this hammer and whacking the heck out of whatever I'm working at as hard as it needs whacked – repeatedly as needed. It's great for my purposes.
