How do you get the dirt out of the hole?

How do you get the dirt out of the hole?
Asked by: Snoman
Thank you for contacting Fiskars. After you have driven the digger into the soil, pull outward on the handles to close the blades, then lift the excavated soil from the hole; deposit soil to one side of hole.

Used in conjunction with a wood handle digger you will really appreciate the longer handles when you get down to a 4 foot depth. It is alittle on the heavy side but when digging hard clay this becomes an advantage. Very well built.

If a hole was off, the blade made it easy to widen the hole after digging it down. Well worth the extra cost over a lower end tool.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Made my yard projects easier. I ordered this product because I needed to install two posts for a patio shade. Being a woman, I could not see myself digging two 2ft holes using a shovel. I'd have probably been at it until next spring. Going online for some ideas, I found out a bit about post hole diggers. After a bit of research and reading some of the reviews, I settled on this one. In my opinion, one of the best purchases I've ever made. I dug those two holes in a little under one hour. That was pretty quick for me considering the soil was mostly clay-like. Also helped a lot for putting potted plants in the ground. Way better than a shovel. Having never used one of these before, I am not an expert on the issue. But I know a useful tool when I see it. It's been getting quite a workout since I got it. Seems very sturdy. Erring on the side of caution, I am giving it 4 stars.

I dug post holes several feet in the ground easily without injuring my back. This post hole digger allowed me to dig a 12" diameter hole several feet down in clay without having to widen the neck of the hole to accommodate the pivot point of a regular clam shell digger. It is made of steel, so should last much longer than wooden handles. I highly recommend this post hole digger. I'm very glad I bought this. I'm a 55 yo woman who works on my house regularly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Planting a Hedge Was a Breeze I am a female, age 60, and bought this post hole digger based upon Fiskars reputation and the fact that the grips were farther apart than in the typical designs I had seen. I also liked the warranty and the durability of the blades. I dug 26 holes 24 inches deep to plant a new hedge and found that this post hole digger was light weight enough so as not to be too cumbersome to allow me to do the job by myself.I love it!
