I also was not happy with this. I had someone try to sharpen it. It got a little sharper. I went back to using my 50 year old machete.
No. It appears to go bout 3/4 of the way though.
I cannot answer your question with any certainty, but I can't imagine needing to extend the handle. I'm not at all a small man, and there is about two inches more handle grip than I need. As a matter of fact, in my initial review I criticized the handle as being too long.

These items, in my opinion, come somewhat dull on purpose. Think of customer liability issues if a shopper happens to pick this item by the blade. I automatically know that tools like this will require sharpening prior to use.
From the tip of the blade to the (upper) end of the handle is 24 inches. From the tip to the beginning of the handle material is 15 inches.
I got mine at Home Depot. You could probably order online for pickup in the store.
