How do you dispose of them once they are full of water? Can they be reused? How long can they be re-used? Can you drive over them?
Asked by: Sandy
After they're used, you let them dry out and store them for the next year. I've used mine for two straight years and they work just like new. They do get dirty and they're hard to clean, because you have to get them wet. They absorb water when you clean them, then you have to let them dry out again. We store the bags dirty - we brush them off, but they look dirty. It's okay, because they still work great.

I have not had to use them, but being prepared if another flood like Hurricane Sandy arrives is providing peace of mind. I did the research and this seems to be the only sandless sandbag product that will work with salt water flooding. I am ready...the lightweight boxes are stored on an upper shelf in my garage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for compact storage for "just in case" While I don't live in a place subject to major flooding (there are no major creeks, rivers, dams, etc. above me), my house is located on a hill below street level. My neighbor had leaves divert water and debris from the street down his driveway and into his garage during a heavy downpour a few years ago. Further, if you've ever seen a water main break, you know how those are capable of causing significant flooding on city streets. So the though has crossed my mind that I really should be prepared to put out sand bags on short notice should something like this happen to my driveway. However, actually storing sand and sandbags for something that could happen years in the future is not easy. Thus I was glad when I came across this product. This allows me to store enough bags to barricade both my garage doors and the front door to my house to keep several inches of water out on short notice, and I can store all of that (30 bags in my case) in a stack about 2' high. I do wish that these bags cost less, but compared to the cost of flood damage these are cheap (especially since most homeowners insurance doesn't cover flood damage). One downside to these bags is that I'm not clear on what to do with them once they've been used. The instructions that come with the bags are quite limited. The company's website has more information and an FAQ, but still nothing related to the draining and disposal of these bags after use. I tried calling their customer support: after waiting for a few minutes, I was required to leave a voice message (there wasn't an option to stay on hold), and they never got back to me, so their customer support didn't win any points with me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic idea, a great emergency item for an El Nino winter We live up in the hills here in Southern California and 'winter' normally starts with a visit to the local fire station to fill sandbags so we can prep for the early winter rains that normally erode the dirt on our hillside property. We decided to try these Flood Sax out so we have an 'emergency' supply of ready to use sand bags just in case the heavier rains of an El Nino winter start to cause additional problems. Compared to a typical 30-50lb sandbag, these are super easy to use and super easy to store. They are supplied in a vacuum packed bag within a custom plastic carrier bag. This means they can sit on the shelf in the garage or shed ready to use when needed. The principal is pretty simple and similar to a child's diaper. When the material inside the bags becomes wet, they 'inflate' creating a decent sized barrier for water and other debris. In the picture below, you can see how the packet of 20 Flood Sax compares to a truck bed full of 24 regular sandbags. There's no comparison really, they're easier to store, easier to move and a must have if you live in a flood prone area or are preparing for severe weather/rain. Compared to free sandbags and free dirt from the local fire station, they're obviously more costly however I'm happy to swap a morning with a shovel and cable ties filling and lifting conventional sandbags in and out of our truck for these!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Innovative, easy to store sand bag kit. These are awesome! They're very light when dry and they come in a great carrying bag (5 per bag). I activated mine by placing them where the water would be. They soaked up the water and they have held the water for over a week! We're in the middle of an El Nino winter, which for us means it's a wet one. We have a hill in our back yard and with some rain, the water comes pouring down. I'm going to use these to build a barrier to help control the water flow on the hill and down at the bottom. When the bags are activated, they are heavy, just like sand bags. I can place them (empty) where I need them, then when they fill up, they'll be like a sand bag. I also noticed that they can be used to soak up water from a plumbing leak, to control water in a basement and to keep water from ruining a floor. We've very happy with these bags and they're a great alternative to filling and carrying sand bags! I recommend you try them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not bad, Not great Found these ponline while searching for something to keep the water from entering out garage. unfortunately these didnt work as well as advertised and we ended up trying 2 different other brands of these instant sandbags which worked better. I'd buy again if the other sandbags were out of stock first. Didn't like that they were white because you can see how dirty they get.
