I am looking to install this over a concrete slab? I ordered this model without realizing it was for floating floors. Can you provide model number for installation over concrete for approx 30" x 84" area. Also someone suggested having a thermal break/insulation such as 1/4" hardy board between the concrete and the heat system? is this ok to do, or does the heat pad go directly over the concrete?
Asked by: Todd
Todd, I will answer your questions the best that I can without knowing what surface you intend to place over the heating mat. First you question regarding a thermal break. It is better to have a thermal break. If the cement is very cold the floor will onlt slighty warm up. The more thermal break the better the heat on the surface above. It will also make it more efficient and allow the system to cycle on and off when the floor gets to temperature as opposed to running non stop. If you decide to go directly on concrete you have to make sure that the concrete id dry. Moisture will cause leakage current which will trip the GFCI and not allow the system to operate until it has dried out which could be a long time. Cement backer board is good but if you want the most efficient barrier use a foam backer board with a high R value. As for the model number - based on your comment on floating floors I will assume that you plane to use tile or store as a flooring cover. For this I recommend our film with Anti-Fracture membrane. The size you mention is 30" x 84". Our A-F film products come in either 18" widths or 36" these widths Cannot be cut. So on Home Depot your choices become IH/AF 36-5 Which is 36" wide and 5 foot long or IH/AF 18-5 which is 18" wide and 5 foot long. These are listed under the IdealHeat brand. We recommend staying 4-6 inches in from the walls. Todd I hope this helps.

can this floor heat by cut

can this floor heat by cut
Asked by: luis
Luis, I don't understand your question? If you are asking if the film will heat up to the point that you shorten the film the answer is Yes it will and long as you cut the length only and cut only in the clear area of the film.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product so far. The very thin design is... Great product so far. The very thin design is really nice to put down under the engineered floor. There is no slope or noticeable transition from where it is to where it is not. The only way to tell is where the warm area stops.I am anxious to see how it does through the rest of the winter.
