Questions & Answers

nail down application?

will this work for nail / staple down application on traditional tongue and grove engineered hardwood over wood subfloor?
Asked by: richard
Yes. The product is designed to be floated, nailed, or double glued. It of course will no longer be a moisture barrier once pierced with nails and or staples.

Can I glue bamboo over it?
Asked by: Lou
No. The material provides no strength to hold anything together. If you're hoping that your floor above stays glued down, then you will be disappointed. You can use this with Bamboo engineered planks with tongues and grooves that snap together, but you do it without glue. That is a "floating" installation.

Can this be used with vinyl tile plank type flooring?

Asked by: Tab
Not suitable under LifeProof brand vinyl plank flooring sold by Home Depot. LifeProof installation instructions specifically states that no underlayment be installed under the vinyl tile except a wood or concrete floor base. Warranty is void if underlayment is installed under the tile.

100 sq. ft. 4 ft. x 25 ft. x 0.08 in. Premium Underlayment for Laminate, Hardwood, and Engineered Floors is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 475.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from It really works I have installed a lot of snap-together flooring and always used the cheap foam rolls of underlayment. This time I decided to try FloorMuffler and all I can say is WOW. I used this on the upper level of my split level house and it really reduces the echo sound that usually is part of going from carpet to hard floor. It also reduces the sound of footfall when downstairs to that of or below what we'd hear with carpet. The product is high quality. It does tear relatively easy but is tougher than the typical foam underlayment. It would be very difficult to install perpendicular to the flooring and I agree that the direction it rolls out makes it tougher to install. It should unroll in the opposite direction, with the vapor barrier up. Neither of these are show stoppers. It cuts easily with a sharp utility knife. It does not compress easily but does provide an appropriate level of cushion under the flooring. If you need a high quality underlayment for flooring, this is it. It's worth the price over the cheap foam.

Easy to install, but you need to work carefully and slowly to line-up the seams. As it wants to roll-up, use pieces of your new floor to hold it down temporarily. This product is very expensive but I bought it as I'm trying to do a great job on a floor that should last decades.

The Floor Muffler underlay was the only thing between the concrete floor and the engineered wood ... No glues. ... No nails. ... No plywood. The floor is beautiful and very easy on the feet. No more dingy looking carpet in the downstairs.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Difficult to install Installing this will give you headaches beyond words can describe. The adhesive tape would not stick at all, when peeling the backing off it would ripe the material. The material punctures EXTREMELY easy!!! The slightest touch and it would ripe. I went to lay the scissors flat beside me after a cut; and with just laying the scissors flat on it it punctured it! WTF. I had someone helping me install it and no matter what we did the product would curl up and would not stay down. I had to use tape just to tape it down and keep it flat to the floor! The appearance and specs are what drew me in; but after the horrible time we had with laying it down I had to jump on here and write a big hefty warning so someone else does not fall victim to the headache and the hours we lost spending time laying it down. You can seriously have an easier time installing a quality pad with less headaches by going with something else.
