Questions & Answers

nail down application?

will this work for nail / staple down application on traditional tongue and grove engineered hardwood over wood subfloor?
Asked by: richard
Yes. The product is designed to be floated, nailed, or double glued. It of course will no longer be a moisture barrier once pierced with nails and or staples.

Can this be used with vinyl tile plank type flooring?

Asked by: TAB
Not suitable under LifeProof brand vinyl plank flooring sold by Home Depot. LifeProof installation instructions specifically states that no underlayment be installed under the vinyl tile except a wood or concrete floor base. Warranty is void if underlayment is installed under the tile.

can this be used with ceramic tile ?
Asked by: floored
Actually, tile should be laid directly on a cement based backer board (or cement itself), but you bring up an interesting idea. I don't see any reason that you couldn't put this between the plywood subfloor and the backer board if you wanted additional sound dampening on a first or second floor room. I don't know how much it would suppress noise compared to backer board alone, since the tile+mortar+backer board combo would provide a nice barrier without it, but unless someone has a good reason not to use it, I might consider something similar in my master bath when I'm ready next year. They also have other products for this purpose though, so i'd have to do more research to see which is better and/or more cost effective.

Vapor/moisture barrier on plywood subfloor?

Noting previous Q&As stating this product works as OR is in itself a vapor/moisture barrier. How safe is this to use on a 2nd story plywood subfloor even though it has a moisture barrier?

Installs easily. But the most impressive factor is how quiet it makes the installation. I used it upstairs in the master bedroom, which is over the living room, and you hear nothing from upstairs when anyone is walking up there. Shoes, Boots, no issue I also used it downstairs over concrete. It does not allow the flooring to move or shift. Makes installation very easy and secure. This is good stuff!

The product was difficult to lay flat. The adhesive backing that joinhs the sections together was past its prime-- peeled off with the protective tape (taking some of the foam with it) & was useless. We are currently living in the apartment under this unit with the new flooring--The noise when some one is walking with shoes on it is incredibly loud. I will have to remove the laminate and replace it with carpeting. This underlament is way too expensive for its benefit. Cons-- Difficult to unroll The self adhesive tape backing was useless--you will have to tape it yourself Noise was not abated! Expensive I cannot recommend this product.

I installed this under TrafficMaster Lakeshore Pecan flooring and it feels very nice to the bare feet. It adds just enough cushion and is great for sound deadening. I don't hear people stomping around downstairs anymore. It was also easy on the knees when installing the flooring. It cuts with scissors almost like wrapping paper. In areas where I had to make odd cuts to fit around cabinets and such, I just used duct tape at the seams.

This product comes with an easy peel back tape to join the two pieces, which is not tacky at all, does not help any. Difficult to cut with a cutter, had to use scissors to avoid rips, had to use some extra tape to keep seems together. this product is NOT worth $60 per roll. I will seriously consider other options.

The product is advertised as providing exceptional soundproofing characteristics, and it's not that fantastic. It's good, but I'd say average for the price. It comes with a plastic flap on one edge, and a sticky tape on the other to help attaching them side by side with the next row, and it works ok

You have to be careful when installing because of the thinness your shoes can easily tear holes into it. We just put duct tape over the holes. Was easy to install and seems to keep the floor quiet when walking.

He took the time to explain and answer my question, which made me feel comfortable with the entire process. I gave it 4 stars because HD sent out the wrong transition piece and caused the project to be incomplete for a 2 weeks.
