Sump Pump Replacement Vertical Switch is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 26.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Float switch for lower sump water level I got this switch in dec 2010 and installed it on a pump I have for removing water from under the house. That pump actually came with a float switch, but it had the type with a float on the end of a power cord and it would not come on until the switch was "upsidedown" floating more than a few inches above the whole pump. To keep the water level more minimal I wanted the pump to come on with the water at ~3/4 the height of the pump and turn off just before the pump would lose the prime where this switch did the job. Over the winter months with some heavy rains at times I checked it and it was doing just what I wanted keeping minimal water under the house. Some might say “you should have just dug deeper”, but the basin I got had the top at ground level and this seemed a lot easier than getting a deeper sump, digging out more, etc. At first glance I thought the float was fixed on the rod & this switch would come on & off with just an inch of water height difference, but it has a 6-7 inch range. The way the switch works is the float actually slides up & down the plastic rod freely and as it comes to the top it activates the switch. Then the switch stays on (make the pump move water out) until the float lowers to where you have a rubber washer and the weight of the float pulls the rod down opening the switch. The rubber washer gives you a low end adjustment and I actually wanted it to come on a little bit before it reached the top, so put some electrical tape on the rod to make the float hit that and activate the switch sooner. The upper end of the rod has a small magnet that activates the internal contacts, so the switch is totally sealed up incase it becomes totally submerged. So my conclusion is if you want a switch to activate at levels above the pump height, get one with a float on the end of a cord. If you want to keep the water level below the top of the pump, get this style.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Purchased 5/18/2016 and died 4/5/2017. I purchased this switch replacement for a HF pump switch t... Purchased 5/18/2016 and died 4/5/2017. I purchased this switch replacement for a HF pump switch that failed. It bolted right up. The pump only runs a 3 hours a day to circulate pond water. Should have paid attention to the 90 day warranty. Will buy another brand this time. Sad that the HF pump is still going strong and I'm going on my 3rd switch.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk I bought a Flotec pump with this switch on it. The original switch failed after 2 months. The replacement switch lasted 3 months. The one that Flotec sent me lasted a whole 9 months. I am done messing around with this junk. Don't waste your time or money on this switch or the Flotec pump that uses this switch.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality I bought two swiches in one year. Both failed within 6 months. I would not recommend it to anyone.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk This switch failed after 3 months and I had a wonderful soaked basement carpet to deal with. Dont understand why, because it continued to work after pumping out the rest of the water. After that failure and reuse it would switch on and stay on thought it might be a problem with the magnet and connection so aired it out worked for less than a day. BOTTOM LINE Don't waste money on this product unless you want an extra problem sooner than later.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from needs modification to prevent from getting stuck The problem with this switch is that it gets stuck. Not sure why, but I guess some sort of build-up on the magnet. I would not get it again if there were other options for deep sump pits. I had to modify it to make the stick longer so that it doesn't turn on very often. I live by the lake so the water table is high. Another modification it prevent it from getting stuck is to add a little weight to the float. You have to compensate for the extra weight by adding a piece of foam to help the float support the extra weight. They should have thought of that and provided a heavier, but more buoyant float.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Contacts not heavy enough for larger pumps I have a pump up toilet and drain system in my finished basement that uses this switch. Over ten years I have replaced it at least 6 times and now the contacts are fried again. I think I may use this (nothing else will fit) to pull in a larger relay with the hope that the contacts will last longer just doing pilot duty.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Inferior product I have been disappointed by this product also. The first switch I purchased would not turn on so I returned it for a second one. It has been almost exactly 1 year and now it will not turn off.
