A larger tank can be used but a new regulator might need to be used. You'll need 11”-13” WC at constant flow. Your local propane supplier can assist here.

Natural gas ?

Answers

No, LP. or liquid propane. Even though both a gas when used, they have different characteristics that requires different sized jets in the carb to maintain the correct mixture for a correct burn. LP is used for most gas grills and is usually sold in various sized tanks, ( this includes the larger refillable tanks next to a house). NG is usually delivered to your house through a Natural Gas pipeline distribution in the ground much like your water is delivered to your house.

How loud is it?

Asked by Patrick September 28, 2020

Answer

It's not as bad as some I've heard. About the same as a good size snow blower, maybe a bit louder than my lawn tractor. I wouldn't want it under my bedroom window all night, but running behind my house it's not bad. An enclosure would be a big help.

Got Power
Assembly took about 30 minutes. The quick start checklist was spot on. Tips: (a) use a box cutter to open the four sides of the container, leave generator on the cardboard. (b) Inventory parts and read checklist. (c) While tools are supplied, I recommend a socket wrench with 8, 10 & 13mm sockets and the job will go smoother. (d) Tip generator over on the plug side to access the red shipping brackets that need to be removed. These are torqued tight and where the socket wrench comes in. I had to whack the ratchet with a mallet to break the bolts loose, then the brackets come off easily. (e) Tip the generator on the backside to mount the base bar. Use blue Loctite on the threads. (f) Tip generator on front side to put the wheels on. (h) Put generator upright and fasten the handles. I had to compress one of flanges that was bent out slightly to get the nut seated. Not a big deal. Don't forget the chrome bolt sleeves. A socket wrench makes the job go faster. On a level surface, add engine oil. It comes with a quart, but you will need to add another 5-6 ounces to fill the required 38oz. Then with the start button in the off position, use the pull chord to cycle the piston a few times and get oil circulating before actually starting the engine. I'd do this before every start to get oil in the cylinder. Now, look through the manual as a double check to be sure it is ready to fire up. I hooked up a propane bottle (3/4 in wrench) for the first test. It took a three tries with the electric starter to get it going. Let it crank for 5-10 seconds, but no more than 15 seconds according to the manual. I hooked up a fan and my garage fridge and let it run for 52 minutes. It is loud, so ear plugs are recommended; exhaust is hot, so point it in a safe direction. I'll do a gasoline test next. Regarding gas, add a stabilizer with the fill to keep the gas fresh. Also, when shutting down, close the fuel valve and let the engine run itself dry so you don't leave gas in the carburetor. The generator weighs just over 200 pounds, but is easy to roll around. I'm having an electrician wire in a 50 amp entry plug to the breaker box, so the generator will power the whole house, i.e. I won't need to run extension chords. Last, I made a test log sheet in a plastic sleeve attached to the generator to track test runs. Like all engines, it should be run at least every two months. I live in FL, so am expecting to use the generator once or twice a hurricane season. You can see by the pic, I'm also a Ford guy.

One star for delivery BEFORE date showing on HD web app. If I hadn't independantly gone to UPS website, I wouldn't have been home when UPS plopped this on my porch, in full view of sidewalk. UPS guy thankfully moved it to garage area with his dolly when I caught him leaving...and ONLY because I'm an OLD LADY and don't have a dolly! One star for looks-Nice blue color, shiny chrome looking details. Received this unit Friday, May 29, 2020. Hoped to be doing first oil change after initial 5 hour burn-in run..not happening. Unit came packed well, slight wear and a large slice on the packing box, but all components arrived undamaged.(see pic). Set up unit as directions provided. Choke lever would not move...at all. Unable to start machine without the ability to use choke. The writing on the plastic handles is hard to read, and, I can't tell what position the choke is in, if it is even assembled correctly from the factory...which it is NOT. I won't start an engine, considering that it might be in 'RUN' mode, which would run the engine at operating speed WITHOUT a warm up=damage to engine. There is no customer service on the weekend. There is not online parts ordering from Pulsar or Ducar, who actually made the engine. I couldn't even find an aftermarket generator parts place online that had this Ducar/Pulsar/Ford engine model FG5250 in their parts catalog. Home Depot 'free' shipped this unit to my home. Not FREE shipping, as other sellers came in MUCH lower price with 'free shipping. I bought this unit, having read reviews on HD and other forums, knowing it might be hit or miss on getting an operational machine. I bought with HD hoping their returns process will be smoother than Amazon & others...we'll see.....

Ref: Order Number WD32845198 This is a GREAT generator for a very reasonable price. This generator is attractive, well built, and very easy to use. Unlike other dual fuel generators this one can be switched from gas to propane or visa versa while running with just the turn of a dial. Also, this model has a longer run time than many other dual fuel models on the market at the time of this purchase. My observations for product clarification: 1.) This product DOES ship with a 5-6ft propane hose with a two-stage regulator and Acme fitting attached for connecting to a standard 20lb, 30lb or 40lb propane tank, a 1-Liter (33.8 oz) container of 10W30 4-cycle oil, a funnel for filling oil, a maintenance free battery, and all necessary wrenches to assemble the unit. IMPORTANT: 1.1 Liter (37.2 oz) of 10W30 4-cycle oil is needed to FILL the crankcase of this unit during assembly so you will NEED to purchase MORE oil before starting this unit for the first time. The 1-Liter bottle of oil that shipped with this unit will NOT fill the crankcase enough for the first run. 2.) You will need to REMOVE both RED painted metal L-shaped engine shipping brackets before first use. 3.) You will need to connect BOTH positive(+) and negative(-) battery cables to the factory supplied maintenance free battery for your electric start feature to work. 4.) This generator DOES ship with an easy to follow Quick Start Guide and easy to understand User Manual. 5.) This generator DOES ship with two heavy duty cushion grip drop down handles for easy moving and storage. 6.) This generator DOES ship with 10" solid (never flat) wheels with chromed plastic F-150 rim covers, recoil (pull start) backup, low oil shutdown feature, digital hour meter, and a spark plug T-wrench. 7.) This generator DOES ship with SIX(6) outlets: (4) 120V 20A GFCI outlets, (1) 120V AC 30A Twist-lock outlet, and (1) 120/240V AC 50A RV outlet ALL with rubber dust covers for added protection when not in use. 8.) IMPORTANT: If possible, Do NOT have this unit shipped directly to your home. Have this unit shipped to your local store so you can carefully inspect it for damage before you sign for it. This way any damage to your unit can be addressed immediately by your store with homedepot.com and Pulsar support. REASON: Of the very few low ratings for this product, MOST are related to shipping damage and receiving the correct replacement part to repair damage during shipping. Additional comments: Ford does not offer a rain cover for this generator so I purchased a heavy duty after-market GenTent rain cover along with some extra side flaps (clear and solid) and everything fit and worked perfectly. See GenTent products at: http://www.gentent.com/ Also, you MAY want to purchase a coated steal security cable and a Master padlock to secure your generator while in storage or while in use because this unit works so well and is so attractive your neighbors will be jealous and try to borrow it during your next power outage without the intent of returning it.....LOL. Have fun with your new Ford generator and think SAFETY first!

After many weeks of research for a Dual Fuel generator, I finally purchased this unit. It was actually on sale which made the decision even easier at the time! Delivery was to my garage door, assembly very easy. I bought a small 15 lb bbq propane tank and ran it 5 hours for testing and break-in. I have a 50amp connection to house to back feed my panel. I hooked it up and ran selective circuits and the generator didn't seem to have much of a load on it. The biggest and most gratifying test was to run my air handler, and then my 4 ton AC condenser, along with my fridge. Worked like a charm! I now have a 420 lb propane tank installed with a quick disconnect line. Ready in case of extended outages due to storms. Electric start works great, and unit runs smoothly once you set choke to about mid-point. Highly recommend!

Solid unit, easy assembly, started right up and runs great on gas ( I only use leaded gas) or LP Can’t give it 4 stars as I have not had to use it for an extended power outage (yet) and have only had it about 1 month. At 78 dbl it’s not the quietest, but not excessive either for its size. Electric start is great and hour meter simplifies service times. The plastic imitation chrome wheel covers are cheap and tacky looking, so I left them off.
