This whetstone is very easy to use. The stone has 2 grits, one on each side, for sharpening the blade. One side is 3000 and the other is 1000. The stone comes with an ergonomic holder to be used while sharpening. It also comes with 2 guides to slide onto the spine of the knife and hold a consistent angle while sharpening. These guides are so very helpful to keep a consistent angle. The set comes with handy instructions, but they're on the box only, so you may need to keep that around the first few times you sharpen to make sure you don't accidentally ruin a knife.

This 7 inch by 2 and 3/8 inches whetstone with two angle guides is an excellent sharpening system. The 1000 and 3000 grit sides make it very easy to sharpen a wide range of kitchen and yard tools. The kit includes two knife angle guides that keep the blade being sharpened at the perfect angle to obtain maximum sharpness. The case holding the whetstone has a non-slip base preventing movement of the stone while sharpening. Also included is a flattening stone to keep the whetstone's surface level after repeated usage. All the attachments including whetstone are easily stored in the non-slip storage case. The case itself has breathing holes to keep all parts safe and dry. See attached photographs.

A must have! Ok, I don’t know why I didn’t get one of these sooner. I am kicking myself in the butt for waiting so long. This is so easy to use, and does a high quality job sharpening knives of all types. You simply slip on the alignment tool and sharpen away. Even if you’ve never sharpened a knife before, you can make your knives very sharp very quickly. I am so happy I got this, and I’ve been sharpening everything in sight!

This takes work and some skill but is a great whetstone for basic kitchen knife sharpening. I have never gotten a good blade with the quick V-sharpeners and others but this stone sharpened my kitchen knives up very well. I gave this product 4 stars because of the guides. I ended up not using them, they scratched the knives and easily gouge the stone. They also do not work well when you are sharpening the curves of the knife. The instructions for this stone are only on the box and not very good. I watched a video online and quickly learned how to sharpen knives. I was able to sharpen dull knives to the point where I could easily cut paper and sponges with ease. It takes 10-20 minutes per knife. The leveling tool works well too. Of note: this stone has 1000 and 3000 grit sides which are just good enough for basic kitchen sharpening. Made in China. A few tips I learned. -Soak the stone for 15 minutes, it needs time to asorb the water. -Ditch the guides, simply rest the spine of the knife halfway up your thumb as you sharpen. -The directions state to use 10 strokes; I found 20-30 back and forth strokes across each side on each area of the knife on each side the stone was best. -Put pressure as you pull the knife across the stone, release most of the pressure as you push the blade back forward. -Keep adding water to the stone as you sharpen. -Use a pencil to mark a rough grid on the stone before you use the leveling too. When the whole grid rubs off, you know the stone is level. -Place the stone and holder on a tray to catch water, it gets messy. -Watch a video online on how to properly and safely sharpen knives.

Forge to Table 7-inch Whetstone with Angle Guide Sharpening System is one I've needed for sharpen...
Forge to Table 7-inch Whetstone with Angle Guide Sharpening System is one I've needed for sharpening my Japanese knifes. The edges are ground to 17-degrees and included is an angle guide for these knifes sharp edges. I already have a whetstone, but not as large as this one or with such a fine grit. This whetstone doesn't use cutting oil or used dry like some of the coated ones that are around. This one is lubricated just with water. The stone is first placed in a bowl of water until the bubbles stop rising indicating it is completely soaked. Then start off with the coarser grit stone (red side.) Slip the included angle guide on the backbone of the knife that pitches the blade to the correct angle. Another guide is included for 20-degree blades found on other knives. For a 17 degree blade use the large guide and for 20 degrees use the small guide. (The guides aren't marked or explained on the box instructions.) Getting the angle right in sharpening is the most critical aspect of knife sharpening . The guides are both handy and a training aid to learn how to hold the knife when sharpening. Done with the coarse stone, switch over to the fine stone (white side). Use a soft stroke, since it seems mostly polishing the blade at this point. There is one last final step, leveling or dressing the stone to complete the process before storing it away. This is because the sharpening process will slightly wear parts of the stone in areas. The leveling process, a tool is included, will level the stone to its original condition. This is an important step or the results will not be the best when using it again. I learned this the hard way when first sharpening my hand-tools. Sharpening my planes and chisels had an uneven grind across the cutting edge. It is because some spots in the stone were worn down more than other areas. It is nice they've included the stone dressing tool. Stones are general purpose for sharpening tools, not just for knives. They can be used on all metal blade tools. In the shop it is excellent for sharpening chisels, punches, plans, etc. I found this one pretty typical how it is used and as good or better than others. The guides are helpful in getting started and like the larger size made it easier to do a good job.

A true whetstone with blade guides and a holder for flat edged steel knives. Includes a dual sided whetstone 1000 & 3000 grit, (higher numbers are finer grit) and a pair of guides that slid onto the back of the knife that have ceramic guide rods install that ride on the stone to control the sharpening angle. The larger guide is best for thin blades and set to 17°, the smaller one is set for 20° A rubbery base that works well holding the stone in use on a kitchen table, and a 'leveling' edge to true up the stone when needed. The three loose parts all store between the base and the stone. Rinse in clean water and let it dry when done, I don't use soap. Soak the stone in water until it is saturated (it will stop bubbling). This provides lubrication in use. Start with the coarse stone side, perhaps 5-10 passes per side (try use the entire stone's surface), check and repeat as needed and finish with the fine side. Take your time and you can produce an incredibly sharp edge, the sharpening angle is critical! Don't use this on ceramic or serrated blades, flat steel blades only.
