Good for general welding
This is about average weight (I measured 1lb 4.6 oz), I would not consider it a "light weight" helmet, which would be closer to the 1 lb mark. However it is well balanced and fits well. It has a bit more coverage than the lightweight helmets that I normally use - it goes farther back over the ears and the jawline. Front to back clearance is good, my nose does not touch the inside glass. It's pretty comfortable, I had it on for about 2 hours and I liked it. I like the headband adjustment knob, it is a push-turn type, which positively locks in place. Other ratchet type knobs tend to come loose, this one doesn't. The side adjusting knobs are large and easy to turn with gloves on. There's no ON or OFF button, but there is a TEST button to confirm that it is functional, and a low battery indicator. All adjustments are continuous, not click-stop; this includes shade setting. There's a Grind setting on the sensitivity dial that works well and keeps the lens from darkening / flashing from grinding sparks. I did a bunch of MIG and TIG welding, and also some plasma cutting using this helmet. In general, I liked it, and it did the job. The filter color is a bluish-green, which I'm not used to, but it sure is clear. There were no "failure to darken" issues, the sensors are placed well so that even if your face is up against a fixture, some of the sensors are exposed so you don't get flashed. I did some 20 A TIG and also had no problems. I usually plasma cut with my helmet "off" which is a 3 or 5, but I found that the low 6 setting of this helmet worked well for plasma. Delay times, actual darkening levels, and actual protection are all within what you would find in a high quality professional helmet. My one complaint is the dual-range selector setting. It is impossible to tell which range you're in just by looking, and I have to "finger check" it every time. Getting an 8 instead of a 12 when you're doing high amp TIG is not enjoyable. One other minor detail, the dials are not glove friendly, so making adjustments requires either removing a glove, or fiddling with the controls with gloved hands. But it's still a very good helmet, and it will get some good use. Oh and the design is cool!

Comfortable, light weight and flashy welding helmet
A great addition to your welding cart. I have found many pros with this helmet: -Lightweight (about 1 lb) -Excellent viewing clarity -Sturdy nylon shell -Fast fitting headband -Large viewing area: over 9 square inches -1/20,000 per second switching speed -Easy to change batteries -Smooth hinges -Fancy design -Very specific settings for the job at hand. As described in manual: DIN 5 to 8 Cutting, low current welding: adjustable shades 5 to 9 for TIG process low intensity, oxyacetylene welding - 9 to 13 variable shade selection The only con I have found is mild lens scratching. It is advertised that it is coated with a protectant but I have found that after a few cleanings I have a few light scratches. It is a tool and meant to be used but I hope that I can maintain my clarity years from now. I would not steer away because of this however.

Fantastic eye protection, great look and light weight..VERY Impressive.
This is an impressive helmet. I cannot appreciate it enough. The Patriot Style design, the extreme comfort, and light weight and ease of adjustment. Plus the extremely grand way the helmet has auto darkening features and adjustments for that as well. The viewing area in this helmet is more than double my old helmet which had no features whatsoever other than a darkened lense. It will take some time getting use to this Forney helmet but already I am loving this product. I can actually see clearly and in comfort while welding. This Forney Master Series TM helmet surpasses all safety standards. I can't believe all this protection and the helmet is under 1 pound. I am no professional by any means when it comes to welding ut rather a hobby. But I certainly do look the part with this fantasic item covering my face, and protects my eyes while trying to weld the best I can. Thank you so much Forney for a great product and to Home Depot as well for carrying this great item. I am a happy user. Two thumbs up..

Used it for the first time today with my FCAW welder. You can't beat the visibility, clarity, and shade settings (5 though 13). very easy to make adjustments. The headband adjusts with a knob and stays adjusted. Comfortable fit. Light weight. Comes with a clear replacement lens for the front window. Easy to follow instructions. Not enough use yet to judge battery life, but it has solar cells, too. The price was excellent compared to other helmets with the same features. Response time to the arc start is excellent; auto darkening sure beats having to shake your head to drop the helmet to shield your eyes when using the old style helmets.

Excellent quality helmet . I've been a life long Jackson quick change helmet user and I have to say this helmet far exceeds the Jackson in ease changing the settings and most of all in clarity! I can see the weld puddle much much better with this helmet. I would highly recommend the forney master series to anyone looking for a reasonably priced high quality welding helmet .

    Light weight, nice look.
This is an excellent welding helmet. When it come to my eyes I wanted something the auto darken very, very quick. This one can be adjusted and I have it set to the max. I like the fact you have to push in on the adjusting knob to change the head band tightness. I can see clearly both before I strike the arch and after I start welding. I am a hobbyist and don't do welding on a daily bases but I like have a helmet with this much quality. I've let a few of my friends try it and they are impressed so much they are going to order there own.

    Very quick auto-darking
I guess I'm use to the older style where the helmet is hard. This one the sides are kind a flimsy, but I guess it doesn't need to be hard. The auto-darkening is very nice and quick. You can adjust it to be more or less sensitive and how light or dark you want it to be. I didn't notice how you can tell when the battery is getting low and if it just brightens the window in the middle of welding or is it gradual. Easy to adjust to your head size and swing up or down in front of your face. It is very light overall. The battery is easy to access and change out. So far I like how it works. Makes lining up your weld much easier.
