Answer

If the stamped surface is completely unsealed(looks unsealed and water easily absorbs), you could consider a couple coats of the AR350 or AR500 which give a nice color enhancement. If any unsealed areas don't improve when wet, the concrete color should be touched up prior to sealing.

I have a 700 square foot patio. Should I get 1 or 5 gallons?

Asked by Chandu April 18, 2021

Answer

If the concrete is very porous/unsealed, each gallon will usually cover about 100 square feet with two coats(may require a minimum of 7 gallons). If the new sealer is going over an existing solvent acrylic coating(in fair condition) and you only need one coat, it's possible that 2 to 3 gallons will complete the job.

does this Require annual re-coating, how long does the shine last ?

Answer

The AR350 is a quality product and usually looks good for 2 to 3 years before a touch-up coat is required. There are occasionally moisture prone surfaces that may require more frequent touch-ups. As the coating loses its enhancement with time you may be able to freshen it up with Xylene solvent and a polyester roller from a local hardware store(rather than recoating). If you apply the AR350 over another product, it's hard to say how long the AR350 will last. When an old sealer below the AR350 fails, it could take the new sealer with it. Also, water based and solvent based acrylics should not be mix-matched(could cause a bonding issue). The AR350 is best on poured concrete(if applying to pavers, keep each coat light). If you have a paver surface, water based acrylics such as the WB15 and WB25 are usually a better choice (thinner and less likely to trap moisture).

Answer

Foundation Armor does not recommend using the AR350 over water based acrylic(runs a higher risk of premature failure). If the surface looks unsealed and absorbs water, the old sealer could had worn away. Occasionally an old sealer will wear away in one area and remain present in another. If the old sealer is still present, consider retreating with water based acrylic or stripping the surface chemically. The old sealer will eventually wear away completely (usually 5+ years but sometimes sooner).

Will a hvlp work with this or is a pump sprayer better?

While Foundation Armor typically recommends applying solvent acrylic lacquers with a polyester roller or a pump sprayer (example: Chapin Extreme or model 1949) you could use and HVLP sprayer(test prior to full application).

This is solvent based, not water based. It does repel water from the concrete.

Answer

The AR350 remains clear unless you prematurely expose it to moisture. If you applied the AR350 over another type of sealer, the issue could be the old sealer. Otherwise, if this is a moisture problem, dunk a 1/2 inch polyester roller in xylene solvent and roll back and forth over a small area repeatedly for 20 to 30 seconds with little to no downward pressure. After using xylene keep the surface dry (let they xylene evaporate away). Xylene temporarily softens the acrylic and allows it to resettle clear again in most cases.

Good Product
First of all it's a good product and does exactly what it's supposed too. I bought 1 gallon thinking it would be enough with 1 coat. I used a sprayer and it was enough for 1 coat but was very uneven because it must have absorbed into the concrete. Bought a second one and used a sprayer again and also used a roller. i got an even coverage and it looks good. The smell of this product is unreal. Even though I did a patio the smell was throughout the house for a full day. I did a video and you can see before and after and how I applied it. https://youtu.be/esJ9EljB5V8 hope this helps

Well worth the price
This product costs quite a bit more than some products on the market and here at Home Depot. But I can tell you from experience that sealants are not all equal. I have had some bad experiences with other brands, and after going through an enormous amount of work in preparation I wanted to go with a brand that will protect all my hard work. I took a chance on this brand and I couldn't be more pleased. My patio now looks the way I wanted it to look 5 years ago! Very, very happy with this product!

I purchased the 1 gallon. Product worked great and was easy to use. I brushed product on and it gave a wet look to edger stones. I used 2 coats and still have more than enough to cover a 10 x 12 paver patio. Please use outdoors because smell is strong but dissipates after a day or so... I am pleased; it was just what I was looking for!

We recently installed a flagstone patio and river rock flower beds to the back of our home. We applied polymeric sand and wanted a good sealer to lock everything in and keep the patio looking good. After much searching we decided to try AR350. $249 may initially appear expensive but it performed exactly as advertised. I applied by using a pump sprayer. Water beads over the area and it brings out the color of the stone really nicely. I plan on buying this in the future for reapplications. Two thumbs up! Pics attached show before and after sealer. Really makes that stone pop!

Re-seal Walk-out Deck
I needed to re-seal my walk-out deck. I bought a gallon of Foundation Armor AR350 Acrylic Concrete Sealer. It cost about 30% less than the product I originally used. Following the package directions, I prepped the deck the day before. The product went on smoothly and covered well with no issues. I applied a second coat the next day using up the remainder of the product, though I am not sure it was needed. Time will tell but I am highly satisfied with the product price and performance and will use it again. I recommend this product.

Nice product
We have a 240 square foot paver patio. It’s nice, but we had weeds coming through. I burned the weeds, power washed the patio, put in polymeric sand and finished it off with this product. It came out great and does look New and has the “wet look” I used one bottle, and had a tiny bit left. It went on easy with a 1/2” nap roller. If I had to do it again, I probably would apply it with a sprayer, then back roll it. It does smell strong as it’s drying. I would recommend it.

Works well, durable
I used this on concrete pavers I also bought at Home Depot. I stained them with a water based transparent stain first, let it dry completely and then hit it with multiple coats of this sealer. The wet look is awesome, really makes the colors pop. Note that on these pavers it is looking like it will take 4 coats to really get a wet look seal because they are so porous, but that's not the products fault. Seems to be a good, very tough finish. Had 3 coats on it for weeks now and it's holding up just fine. As for cons: 1. Strong odor, even outside. Odor persists for days, will eventually fade. Unless you are applying in windy conditions, you will likely need a respirator 2. Clean up is difficult, use disposal equipment

Great for Sealing Pavers and Stone Walkways of All Sorts
We recently installed a paver patio (paver's manufactured by Midwest Manufacturing) onto the back of our house. I put in polymeric locking paver sand and wanted a good sealer to lock everything in and keep the patio looking good. I came across AR350 and decided to give it a shot. It is pricey but it's the best out there that I can find. I applied by using a pump sprayer and then taking a long handled paint/stain roller and smoothing it out over the surface. Worked out great. I also applied this product to the pavers in front of my front door (they're probably 6 or 7 years old and never sealed) and it turned out really nice. It turned out so good on the front pavers I kept going and applied it to the front epoxy pebble walkway and it turned out great as well. Water beads over the area and it brings out the color of the stone really nicely. I plan on buying this in the future for reapplications and then applying their concrete sealer to our driveway once I pressure wash it. Truly great products that I have no doubts will perform well for years to come.
