A: It is solid brass with chrome finish. I would say that the hook itself would be fine outside. I would say though that because the clip is just made of sheet metal that I would run a bead of caulk on the bottom of the hook to keep rain etc. from infiltrating

FRANKLIN BRASS SOMERSET SINGLE TOWEL HOOK IN CHROME The single towel hook is an ideal hook for hanging one towel in an area where there isn't a lot of clearance for a larger hook. It has a standard hanging clip supplied with two screw and 2 drywall anchors. The clip is easy to install. The hook has a set screw in the bottom to attach it to the clip. It also has a hex wrench included.

This tower hook is solid and has a very nice finish. We install it in a contemporary bathroom. It's base has a large diameter and if mounted on a stud or blocking behind sheetrock, will easily hold the heaviest towel of bath robe. The bracket allows for easy mounting and alignment - a set screw locks the hook to the bracket. Other fixtures in this design are available for the bathroom

The set screws needed to install are nefariously small, making the installation a bit frustrating, and occasionally you may think something is secure only to have it pop off. One hint: make sure the wall anchors are sunk all the way to the wall surface, or there will be a weakness in the installation.
