will this nailer install finishing nails

The mini palm nailer is designed to drive framing nails and nails with a flat round head. With finish and trim nails there is a very high likelihood that the nails will continually get wedged or jammed in the hammer mechanism.

Can this be used for backing out nails from used lumber?

In theory, yes. In practise? There are better options. The problem with these for that purpose is twofold: 1. The piston within the shaft was designed to, if you'll pardon the expression, "hit the nail on the head". That is, the tolerances (gap between the piston and shaft wall) offers a bit of slop. This is fine for hitting a nail INTO wood; the nail considerately provides a nice flat head upon which to get purchase. Unless you have very steady hands, however, you run the risk of the point shifting into the gap the aforementioned slop leaves, and wedging the two together. 2. These aren't like a nailgun. It's not a "WHA-BAM!" it's more like a "tappy-tap-tap!" Depending on the gauge and material of the nail, you run the risk of simply bending over (or worse, accordion-crumpling) the nail, particularly if the hole the nail has been countersunk into is obstructed by something (paint, splinters, debris, dirt, an eyelash, direct sunlight, gasses other than pure Hydrogen... almost anything really). It would probably work a treat if the nail remains dead straight and its entrance hole was free and clear... but then, so would a $7 hammer.

What size air compressor do you need to use this effectively?

Answer

These are some of the LEAST air-intensive tools available. I don't know if you could QUITE drive one off a tire inflator or an airbrush compressor (I'm 100% certain you could with even a couple-liter tank for either), but boy you'd come pretty bloody close. Their official spec suggests a need of 0.5cfm (meaning even that dinky Ryobi 18v+ one could drive it), but I would argue that, considering the amount of time required to set up each nail - which is minimal, don't misunderstand, but still appreciably higher than a jab-n-stab nailgun, where you can hold down the trigger and just deposit a nail every time you touch the tip to a surface - I think even the most anemic of compressors would have time to adequately refill before the next usage.

Will this nailer work with v nails used for picture frames?

No. It will break the frame apart. I used mine to attach hurricane straps to my deck joists. Try a pin or Brad nailer. I have multiple freeman nailers. They are all very good quality.

What 16D nails fit in this. I bought a box of common nails and they won't fit in the opening

Answer

Any 16D framing nail should fit in the palm nailer no problem. Did you purchase a roofing nail with a large round head? If so, this will not fit in the palm nailer. You can contact us at 1-888-669-5672 if you have any further questions.

Great handheld nailer.
Ideal for nailing in tight spaces, although it nozzle head won't fit a 4inch framing nail head.

The nail hole was smaller than many of the nails I use. However, this is great for getting into smaller places that you can't reach by hammer or nail gun. It is worth the purchase.

Bought this to use on an old house having to sister up some 2 X 8 floor joists, minimal hammer swinging room. Only used in a few spots so far but worked great, even finished toe nailing nails that had been there forever that hadn't been hammered in all the way. Not even a trigger just push over nail and automatically starts working. This little tool is so neat and inexpensive you should by one just to have an excuse to by that compressor you've been wanting to get, that's what i did. and don't forget 7 year warranty.

So easy to use. Makes quick work for a homeowner.
I just used this palm nailer. It is great. Packs a big punch for a small price. I am a homeowner, not a contractor. I just bought an air compressor, finish nailer, framing nailer, and this palm nailer. I was a bit intimidated by the framing nailer, which is what is called for. So I used this to get comfortable. It got the job done easily. It is much less cumbersome. I can see its use more than the framing nailer. But, as I said, I am a homeowner. There is no way that I could use it all day.
