Q:Where is it made? China? Mexico??

Answer This Question

A:  Hello, GuyA! Thank you for your question. Many of our parts for products are designed by our engineers in the United States. Many of those parts are manufactured in the U.S. while other parts are made globally to our specifications. Most of the parts that are available to purchase are the same parts that are used in the appliances during the manufacturing process. Parts suppliers can and do change from time to time because we continue to seek the most efficient suppliers to produce quality parts. It is important to us that our parts are well-made and meet our specifications. We hope this information was helpful to you and your shopping experience. ~Sam

Q:Is it normal for this 5-month old dehumidifier to ice up like this in a 70 degree room? The manual says, "Dehumidifier has been turned on recently," but that's not the situation here.

A:  Frigidaire told me the freeze is due to either a dirty filter/coils or a Freon leak.

Smaller footprint but for ~1,000 sq ft maximum
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Solid humidifier. I own both the older version 50 pint and new 35 pint version. The new 35 pint version works well in my 1,100 sq ft basement and maintains 55% humidity levels. However, if set it to 50% humidity, it runs almost constantly and struggles to achieve the goal (usually keeping the basement around 52.5% humidity). The older 50 pint version can achieve whatever humidity setting I desire in the basement (on medium setting). On my 1,700 sq ft main floor with cathedral ceilings however, the new 35 pint version cannot maintain proper humidity levels. With it's smaller footprint, I had hoped to be able to keep the less obtrusive model on the main floor - but that isn't possible. It also has a side blower (which can be a benefit or a negative depending on where you choose to place it). The 35 pint model set to high is the same decibel level as the older 50 pint version on medium. Ignore the decibel levels on the website - I own both models and placed a sound meter next to them. The older 50 pint model can easily maintain humidity levels on my 1,700 sq ft main floor with cathedral ceilings. I have never set it past medium (to keep decibel levels down) and it works just fine. The tank on the old 50 pint version is much larger than the newer model... so it requires slightly less emptying. So, my suggestion is as follows: New 35 Pint version: No more than 1,000 sq ft for ~52-55% humidity levels. 58-60 decibels on high. 50 Pint version: Up to 2,000 sq ft for 45%+/- humidity levels when set to medium (58-60 decibels on medium). Even better humidity levels when set to high.

I purchased because I have did very good luck with Frigidaire products. I just unpacked and thought I better make sure there was no packing materials around filter. To my surprise there was No Filter, they must have missed during assembly? I hope they didn’t miss anything internally?

        Failed after just 15 months
This review is for a Frigidaire dehumidifier ( model FFAD5033W1 ). After just 15 months of light duty the unit failed with an EC fault code which seems to be a very common occurrence based on the reviews. Frigidaire says the unit is unrepairable, and since it is outside the brief 1 year warranty, and they offer no responsibility for an all too common defect, then it is money lost. This unit was manufactured by Electrolux ( using the Frigidaire brand name ) and is available under several other brand names so buyer beware and avoid in favour of a different manufacturer.

Ices up / stops working after the warranty expires
I've owned 3 of these, purchased from various retail outlets. With all 3 units, they lose refrigerant which causes the coils to ice-up. The iced-up coils block airflow and the unit stops dehumidifying. All 3 lost refrigerant just after the 1 year warranty expired. The Frigidaire warranty on the predecessor units was 5 years. Now you know why they changed the warranty to 1 year. This review is more about me than about this Frigidaire dehumidifier. I'm too dumb to learn my lesson.

13 Month Lifespan then your on your own!
Frigidaire High Humidity 50-Pint Capacity Dehumidifier, worked for the first summer of its very short life. Only plugged in during summer months in the lower finished basement. The cooler temperatures in the following spring had us not needing to turn on until late June, which was right at the 1 year warranty mark. The unit froze up so bad it had thick ice coming through the CLEAN air filter, along with water leaking all over the floor. Tried thawing it out a few times for a few days at a time but it kept freezing up right away and never defrosting itself. The room temperature was between 65 and 70. Should have worked. I called Frigidaire's number and 40 minutes later I got to speak with someone that told me over and over again that the 1 year warranty ended 30 days ago and they would do nothing. Worst dehumidifier we ever owned. They usually last 5 years or more.

              Brilliant!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Made my recording studio "pitch perfect" as my A/C didn't run enough to keep the humidity down. I can leave guitars out and everything stays in tune. Fantastic!

                Buyer Beware!
I purchased this product in Feb/22 and it lasted about 1 yr and 2 months exactly 60 days beyond the warranty period, so I was out of luck! This machine will display an error code EC and from this moment on this dehumidifier it will no longer function properly. I contacted Customer Srv and was told because I was 60 day beyond the warranty period there was nothing they can do other than recommend a good repair tech, nearby of course. The EC code was a familiar code to the operator BUT NO RECALL

                  Great dehumidifier
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had bought a smaller dehumidifier and ran it for 24 hours with minimal results. The room is very cold at about 50 degrees and very moist being an add on room right next to the ocean. I Bought this one and it immediately started drawing the moisture out of the air. It went from in the high 60% to 35-40 in. Very short time.

                    35 PINT VS 50 PINT
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Couldn't find a 50 pint. Went with the 35. Works just fine. Build quality and water bucket same as the 50. We run it on low. We find the fan noise soothing, not annoying at all. It's definitely not loud. Brought our house down from 65% to 35% in no time. Wife is on oxygen from a bought with double pneumonia she had in both lungs. She struggles with breathing in hi humidity situations. This helps her a lot. If your a research junky like I am. I'm sure you already know the Frigidaire is at the top of almost every comparison. Skip the small table top models and get a 35 of 50 pint. You'll be money ahead in the long run.

worked for 14 months, then frosted up
I chose this unit as recommended by Wirecutter, and it worked well keeping my 600 sq. ft. basement under 50%. Two months past the 1-year mark, the bottom third of the coil started frosting, making the unit ineffective. Cleaning the filter and coil for good air-flow did not help. After research, it seems that these units have a chronic issue losing refrigerant which causes the freezing. Didn't expect this to last forever, but 14 months is pitiful. I wish HD or Frigidaire would make this right.
