Q:Will this tape work on smooth and or rough aluminum siding?

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question! FrogTape Multi Surface painter's tape is recommended for use on carpet, cured painted walls, glass, metal, stone and unfinished wood. If you wish to use it on aluminum siding we would advise to test it first. FrogTape will work best on smooth surfaces, however, if you still wish to use FrogTape on textured surfaces, one method is to apply a thin coat of your base color along the tape edge first. This activates the PaintBlock Technology and also ensures any initial bleed through that may happen will be the same base color as your wall. If you don't have access to your original base color, another method for painting on textured surfaces involves caulking along the tape edge before you paint. The moisture of the caulk activates the PaintBlock Technology and creates an additional seal against paint seepage.

A:  I did run into some old paint peeling on my ceiling with this tape, but it was very few and far between, maybe a 1 inch spot here and there. Otherwise it did very well everywhere else.

A:  best to remove the tape within a day...otherwise the paint can set so hard that any on the edge will pull away the dried paint and cause the problem described.

A:  Frog tape will not peal the paint from your ceiling, that is what I used it for and it worked very well.

A:  When removing tape pull it back keeping close to piece / wall, not out. This will minimize lifting of old paint.

A:  It should not peel the paint off your walls as long as the wall paint isn't fresh and uncured (check the paint can for how long it takes the paint to reach its fully cured state). Unlike conventional beige masking tape, the frog tape's adhesive is designed to be easier to peel off.

A:  My experience with this tape is that you really need to keep the paint very light on the edge or it will seep under. And depending on how good the paint quality and or coats the tape could pull up the paint. I had good success with light coat at the edge and pull it up slowly. Hope that helps

A:  Maybe. It depends on the condition of your walls. I normally have no trouble with this tape pulling paint, but recently did a job where I was removing a texture from a ceiling and had to plastic off the walls. When I pulled the plastic and tape, it did remove some of the wall paint so I had to cut in the walls again to get a clean line. The walls had an older paint job and the corners were rough from the texture mud, so that probably contributed. If the walls are smooth, solid, and have a newer coat of paint the tape should release without pulling paint.

                      Damaged the sheetrock
I typically use the blue paint tape which does periodically allow paint to bleed under it, so I thought I'd try Frogtape. It definitely sticks better, but the problem is removing it. The tape was on the walls for about 8-12 hours before I removed it and in several places it lifted old paint off the wall and in others it tore the surface paper of the underlying sheetrock (see photos). I have occasionally seen some paint lift off with the tape but never the level of damage the Frogtape did.

No better than good old blue painters tape.
Just just didn’t do as advertised. Did it help keep the lines clean as I had hoped.

Frog tape is worth its weight in gold! Totally saved my painting project. I was painting a tray ceiling. The ceiling is textured like the walls and had a round edge from the tray to where the ceiling starts. So not only was there texture, I was also painting only half of the curve. It came out perfectly!!!

                                Best tape ever!
Bought this tape to mast trim. Left it on for a week and was worried about pulling it off. It came off without an issue and the lines were crisp and no paint bleed. I used the blue tape and what a nightmare. Will always rely of Frog Tape from now on!!

I was using the frog tap to keep grout from getting on the ceiling. This tape wasn’t on the ceiling for 1 hour. What a waste of money. Will not be buying their products again. Caused more work for me. Would have been better just to repaint where I got grout on the ceiling pulled paper off the entire 72”.

                                    Worthless
This is multi surface in that there are multiple surfaces where it WON’T stick! Absolutely awful. Instructors refer you to a website for “tips.” Their tip is - once you lay down the tape, now you have to go back and run clear latex caulk over it? Like I just have that laying around…. And what a waste of time. This stuff is junk. Stay away.
