No. It's a tight fit, but it doesn't seal the space in between.
Unless the one you are removing requires you to do so, for example if it nails in from the bottom (rare), then no. This one easily slides on an open door while still on the hinges.
I didn't screw it in and it has worked just fine for the last 6 years.

It will seal a 1/2 inch gap, but I don't believe it would work for a 3/4 inch gap. You would have to rig a fix for 3/4 inches.

You screw it in on one side. It is on the inside. 5 screws. You may need a metal drill bit to drill pilot holes since it does come with screws but they are not self-tapping.
