Can this seal slip-on to the original tracking I have on my door

How wide are the t-shaped ends?

My 20-year old garage door bottom channels are a quarter of an inch. I need the t-shaped ends of a new bottom seal to be 1/4" but I'm finding the standard width of the t-shaped ends are 5/16" a little bigger than 1/4" and won't slide into my channels. How wide are the t-shaped ends on this product?

How do I install this product?

where can I find detailed instructions for installtion?
Asked by: Kent
Its easy to install! Use a screw driver and a a hammer to bend the ends of the T channel back straight on one end of the track. Pull out old seal by grasping with a pliers and sliding out of the track. It helps to have a second person when installing the new seal. Align the T's of the seal with the tracks slots and push into the track. Grasp the new seal and pull it into the track. This is where it helps to have someone "feed" the new seal into the track. It will get harder to slide the farther it gets into the track. A little soapy water on the track will make the job easier. Once the seal is all the way in cut off the excess with a scissors or a knife. Bend the ends of the track slightly to hold the seal in place.

the track on my door is 2 inches wide will this item fit it shows 2 3/4 inches wide

Asked by: poorboy
You typically will want enough material to create a bubble. This way when the door closes it will press down the bubble and fill any gaps. 3/4 of an inch is not enough to create that bubble but I want to make sure you are measuring between the grooves and not the entire trim piece. If you are then you should look for another item.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Check WIDTH you need before buying! Product description says this will: Replaces the Vinyl Insert in MOST Metal Overhead 2-Car Garage Doors ... However, I made the mistake of not checking the width of our existing door bottom seal. After installing this 2-3/4 in. wide seal, and upon closing the door, I found that there was a 1/4" gap between the bottom of the seal and the concrete that extended from the left edge of the door to about one fourth of the way across toward the middle. Turns out this new seal -- at only 2-3/4 in. wide has a significantly higher profile -- with straighter and therefore effectively much STIFFER side walls -- than my old seal, even though it's made of the same black vinyl material. I tried increasing the Down Force on my Genie door opener a small amount but that still didn't work to make the narrower seal get flatter in the middle. I ended up setting the Down Force back to where it originally was because at 1/4 of a turn higher the door actually would auto-reverse and would not stay closed. _____ In other words, the concrete slab in my garage isn't perfectly level all the way across and -- as it turns out -- I needed to use the 3-1/2 in. wide seal (Home Depot sells it as ProSeal Model # 55020 Internet # 202205595 ) because the weight of the door -- without any increase in Down Force -- can actually squish it out more in the middle and toward the right [where the concrete is a bit higher] while the less-squished portion of the seal toward the left end can effectively fill that 1/4" gap --- so snow and water (and bugs) won't get under the door and inside my garage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just what I needed but difficult to install As the first reviewer noted, this was not an easy installation. I fed the seal while my wife pulled with pliers. We had to use the soap and silicone trick and what we found really helped was a heat gun. Warm the rubber seal and the metal track allowed it to flow easier and stay in the track, the heat helped expand the track to allow pulling the last foot. Careful to not melt the seal, we did this in december so it very cold making the rubber not flexible, if you did it in the summer leave it in the sun to warm up before install.

The seals on my garages were compressed, hard and brittle, water was getting in on heavy rain. I removed the old gaskets, cleaned the channels and sprayed silicone spray in the groves to ease the install of the new gasket. It's really best to have a 2nd person to feed the gasket into the channel while one person slowly tugs its across. Its alot easier if someone is standing on the end and feeding the channels in straight, otherwise it will kink since the gasket was rolled so tight. Especially on the 2nd garage when you get to the end of the roll. If you can warm if up before you install, even better. But my garage is 2 inches thick and this creates a perfect seal just like in the photo. First couple days, the gasket springs back to original shape, we'll see how long that lasts. Great product though.
