Does stormguard go over or under the roofing felt

Storm Guard is applied under any other felt or synthetic underlayment you opt for; the two do not have to be overlapped with the exception of the seam line.

metal roof

can this product be allowed to touch the metal of a metal roof without any problems?
Asked by: fred
Owens Corning WeatherLock makes one just for metal and tile roofs. Note that in a lot of places we have to put a fire risistant underlayment under metal roofs. Check your local code, if you are geting it inspected. VersaShield Fire-Resistant Underlayment is what I have used.

I put this on my wood shed 2 years ago, because I know it would be a few months before I would get to put shingles on, still no shingles no leaks held up so far, I know it is not designed for exposure for that long. I guess I better get it covered but could not be happier with it. Note when installing put a few staples across the top were the next roll will cover to hold it place, pull up the bottom and peel stick it down then pop the staples and peel and stick the top.

I went looking for the Grace Ice & Water Barrier, a well-established, high-quality underlayment and the HD rep claimed this was essentially the same. Not even close! Edges were peeling up before I finished laying out half a roll. Would never recommend for any application unless you're going to nail it down extensively, which defeats the whole purpose of a peal and stick product. Spend a little more and get a quality material. Roofing is not the place to take shortcuts.

Solid product representing a good middle ground between lower quality mineral surfaced ice water barriers and higher end Grace ice water shield. Adhesion is good, though higher temps will help it stick where you put it. Lower temps will require stapling.

The only downside was the stickiness of the material .Not sticky enough, even on cleaned and primed surface. With some modification, it worked well and met the job requirements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from STORMGUARD, ITS STUCK TO MY HAND Stormguard is a pain to use, until u start to think about what it is and how it works, so i used it to my advantage, first its heavy, so i cut it on the ground, (instead of on the roof), second it seals around the nails and if you read the install sheets it should be cap nailed down, so to stop it from sliding off the roof i would put a couple of nails in the top 3 inches to hold until i can get the white paper film of off the bottom half and stick it down, pull the nail at the top, peal the paper and your done, then just nail the rest down, The only down side i can think of at this point is that the white film paper on the back is so hard to cut, but i fixed that problem too, just put if face down and cut the back side first, seems to work for me, By the time i am done with my roof, i will have used 13 rolls of the stuff, i have used 4 as of today, i'm working alone on a 33 square roof that is my summer project, i will review every GAF product is have used under the maininbuff heading
