Are you supposed to flash or caulk this siding when installing it?
Asked by: matthew
I did not. I did it just like the asbestos siding was done on the house and put felt paper strips between the pieces on the vertical gap. I was fixing a home where some of the old asbestos siding had fallen off over the years.

Unfortunately, the range of sizes available didn't match the dimensions of the siding pieces on my house. Therefore, I had to choose a larger size and have a contractor cut the pieces to the correct dimensions. Other than that, they worked out well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Price is rather Outrageous In matching old to new work in older homes, this is a necessary item. The shipping was excellant, online ordering was fine, and product performs as expected. I ordered 11 bundles for a garage project, and came up 3 pieces short, due to breakage or mistakes. Rather than wait a week for delivery I found the same product locally for far less cost. HD charges $151.00 a bundle whereas Universal had the exact same product for $105.96 per bundle. As much as I love Home Depot in the future I will check around for prices before ordering again. A $46.00 difference per bundle in price is rather an extravagant profit margin. I would recommend the product but not the price to anyone doing similar work.

It worked for what we were doing, replacing some areas where the asbestos siding was gone, but I thought it was more brittle than it should have been when cutting. It served the purposed and looks like the other on the house now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is the perfect product for repairing existing asbestos siding. My house has asbestos siding... This is the perfect product for repairing existing asbestos siding. My house has asbestos siding which I'm guessing is 50 years old or more. The existing siding was installed well and has held up well since installation. However, this past winter had some extreme winds which blew several tiles off the back of the house. Also the house originally had an attached garage which sometime past was converted to office space. They put a large used window in the former garage door area and did a mediocre installation job of it. I wanted to install a larger and better window and properly weather seal the poorly done former garage door area. The problem was finding replacement siding tiles. The original tiles were much larger than any used asbestos siding tiles I could find locally. I purchased a couple of boxes of the GAF Weatherside Profile 14 tiles and cut them to the proper size. The tiles were well-packaged and all arrived undamaged. The tiles were easy to work with. I cut them to size with a 4" circular saw with a diamond blade. I am very pleased with the finished job. I rated this 4 stars instead of 5 because of the high cost of the tiles. They cost over $10 per tile. I would definitely recommend this product for this type of repair.
