Questions & Answers

Can this ballast be used with the new LED bulbs?
Asked by: Rush
Yes, but you have to make sure that the LED bulbs being used are those meant to work as drop-in replacements for normal fluorescent tubes, i.e. work with existing ballasts. For example: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Philips-32W-Equivalent-Cool-White-T8-4-ft-LED-Bulb-10-Pack-469486/301154652 From bulb description: "Philips InstantFit 48 in. T8 linear LED light bulb is the easiest way to replace linear fluorescent light bulbs with an LED solution. An instant start ballast is required for use, with no modifications to the existing fixture that it houses and no rewiring necessary with this Instant Fit design."

Will this T8 ballast light up T12 lamps?
Asked by: Boog
Probably would, but I would NEVER use it. They make T12 specific ballast, so why would you use a T8 on T12 ??

I have a 4 lamp unit, my unit had two ballast to run 4 t12 lamps, would this singular ballast be compatable, if i switch to t8 bulbs?

Asked by: Bcacc
Yes, I did exactly that with mine using the Phillips LED T8 2100 Lumen bulbs I purchased at Home Depot.

Asked by: David
Hello, David. Unfortunately, there is enough of a difference for some of the specs, that it would not be recommended to use this GE ballast to replace the other one you have mentioned. Thank you. Scott GE Customer Service

120-Volt Electronic Ballast for 4 ft. 4-Lamp T8 Fixture is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 169.

If you need your existing 4-lamp lighting fixture to work and aren't ready to switch to LED (or darkness), then this ballast is for you. Like all ballasts, this is a mysteriously heavy black box with some wires sticking out of it. The wires are nicely color coded--that is, if you have enough light to see the colors and are not color blind, they are. There is even an electronic diagram on the label of the ballast that provides useful information. Remove the old ballast leaving enough of its mysterious colored wires to attach to the new ballast. Do this with the electricity off for increased chances of outliving the life of your ballast. If all goes well, your new ballast will somehow make the lights work through its embedded magic. Reward yourself with a beverage of your choice after successful installation. (Note--ballast does NOT come with choice of beverage.)

Remove bulbs and ballast cover, remove old ballasts, attached new ballast, connect like colored wires, reinstall ballast cover and bulbs, DONE! Instant-on lights, no more delays and "flicking" the light switch up and down to finally get the light to turn on!!! Highly recommend!! Wife is Happy!

What I liked about this product over some other brands that I've used is that the leads on the ballast were long which eliminated double splicing the short wires. It also gave me the optiob of eliminating splices all together if I wanted to go directly to

Replaced 2 bad T12 ballasts with this 1 T8 ballast in a 4 bulb fixture that I’m now using in my shop. LED bulbs seem to work great but it does not like all LED bulbs. The ones I purchase at HD work well. Much lighter in weight than old ballasts.

This is NOT a GE ballast. When ordering it shows a GE ballast, but the actual ballast is a replacement brand. Needs to be corrected on the website.

Installed in less than 15 minutes or less. To make it easier, I just pulled out the old wires and put in the new ones 1 by 1.
