Asked by: Vee
Probably, but it's worth the $21 for a new one. The delivery crew installed the new one, and took the old stove away. The $20 for take away was well worth it.

GE 30 in. 5.3 cu. ft. Electric Ran with Self-Cleaning Oven in Bisque is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 3929.

Set oven to bake at 350. When the preheat notification went off I assumed the temperature had reached 350, and put a frozen dinner in the oven. Cooked for the amount of time on the package instructions. Dinner was half cooked. Preheat notification when temp reaches 200 is misleading. Workaround is to wait another 10 or 15 minutes after preheat notification before putting food in oven, then cook it for the time on package instructions. Nowhere in the manual does it say preheat notification is set to 200 degrees. I checked page 11 in the manual (as recommended to itm98) and I think that just tells you how to change the oven temperature if it's running too hot or too cold, which is not the problem. Got an oven thermometer and validated that it does get up to 350. It's the preheat notification that is the problem. The bisque color is good, the range looks nice, and the top coils work well.

We have had no issues with the SENSI-TEMP Technology, boils water just fine and no problems with the coils turning on and off like some reviewers state. Our cast iron skillets work just fine as well. I checked the oven temp with an oven thermometer and it was within 1 degree at 350 degrees. Yes, the oven is programmed such that it is considered preheated at 200 degrees. We just look at the current temp and wait a bit longer for it to get closer to the set temp. Of course the days of oven makers having a nice flat top of oven to store stuff on (lawyers probably say it's dangerous as stuff could fall off and into a hot pot and splash someone). So we just got a nice matching stainless steel shelf - and boom, we got out storage back. Yes, it is a fingerprint magnet. Only 4 stars for energy efficiency as electric stoves are not as efficient as gas / propane. The delivery guys were great and on time. Overall we are very pleased with this purchase.

I had 10 people coming for an early Christmas dinner. I planned to serve 10 pounds each of Prime rib and a spiral cut ham. The meats cooked side by side in this huge oven. All of the sides and 2 homemade pumpkin pies and an apple pie were baked in the new oven. I am really impressed with how the meats came out. I could not ask for a better deal on this oven. The oven seal is so good that hours after I turned it off it was still hot. I'm not used to that. Another thing I like is that the stovetop has been given some thought too. It has the old style burners, but the drip pans sit on a little rise that keeps any overboil from going down into the belly of the stovetop. I haven't done that yet, but I know I probably will sometime or other. This is a really good product for those who just cannot bring themselves to go to a glass cooktop just yet and it doesn't cost a thousand dollars either. Great value for the money.

It is not the GE that many have trusted for decades. Trusting GE and checking Consumers Report, as well as reading online reviews prompted me to purchase this range. Immediately, I discovered that the oven preheat signal beeps at 200 degrees regardless of set temperature. It took 45 minutes to reach 350 degrees. It required an oven thermometer to know what the temperature was. I returned it for another one assuming that it was just a problem with that unit. The second one had the same problems. GE customer service told me that the preheat signal is timed and only means that the oven is hot enough to put food into it. Clearly, they do not understand what might happen to many items if baking begins at too low a temperature. This is a poorly engineered range. The oven is unacceptable and will drive any serious baker crazy. DO NOT BUY!! I am now the happy owner of a different brand.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I'm not usually one to review items, but I thought this might warrant some consideration. Really,... I'm not usually one to review items, but I thought this might warrant some consideration. Really, this range doesn't deserve the 4 stars. As far as I can tell, it performs like it should. I wish I could give this less stars but I don't think I can count user lack of reading as justification. You see, I learned the hard way that these new GE (and I believe HotPoint) ovens come with heat sensitive burners. One might be elated for progress and safety this oven offers if it weren't for the fact that the burners can barely sear a steak. Depending on what kind of pan you're using, the burners will shut off (in the name of safety) when the pan reaches a 450 degree threshold. You might think that's enough, but it isn't. Meals that would take an hour to prepare before now take 3 hours. Very frustrating. The simple fix is, you can buy new burners and get rid of the terrible new burners. Problem is, that sets you back another $125. Which, if you're looking into or are interested in this oven, you're probably not buying it because it's got all the latest bells and whistles and you're looking for something... inexpensive. Well, unless you enjoy the aggravation of the burners this appliance comes with, you'll likely need to shell out an additional $125 on this to get it working the way a coil burner should. All this to say, avoid this model or any models that come pre-installed with the "safety" burners. All this to say, once new burners were purchased to replace the pre-installed ones, this range is totally fine. I'm just miffed I had to spend an extra $125 to get it working the way it should.

I manage a 33-unit apartment complex and have purchased GE electric ranges forever without any issues. If you see Sensi-Temp burners listed, run don't walk. Get any other brand that does not use this new technology. I had a GE serviceman come out and had him stand there while my tenant attempted to fry tortillas unsuccessfully for 20 minutes because the high heat went off and never came back on. He simply said what I'm sure he's been told to say to all the people that complain. "It's working as it was designed to work". It's NOT WORKING AT ALL!!!! Then he told me that she needs to use different pans. So now the new technology limits what pots and pans you can use??? It's a nightmare? Of course, once it's delivered you can't return it. I will be complaining directly to GE in hopes of getting a refund since it's a stove top that doesn't work properly at all. DO NOT BUY THIS STOVE!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok It does it's job, but I don't really know that I need the sensors. They are fine if you have new post and pans, but older ones that might be a little dinged up and don't sit completely flat cause the sensors to turn the burner down. If you're boiling water for spaghetti you'll have to stand guard to turn it off and back on to get the temp back up. The sensors also are discolored after a couple weeks and look dirty, even though they are not. Also, when broiling it seems like the top of the stove gets VERY hot.
