Hi BMD- Yes, in the case of a power outage, you can light the surface burners with a match. See Owner's Manual for details. Hold a lighted match to the burner, then turn the knob to the low position. Use extreme caution when lighting the burners this way. Keep in touch! Sue

The height will vary slightly (+/- .2") depending on the burner. The height of the grate is designed to provide optimal heating while also maintaining burner efficiency and safety. Hi Ray241 - When installing two products on the same circuit, the amp requirements of both appliances has to be equal to or less than the total amperage of the circuit. Our countertop and over-the-range microwaves also requires a 120 volt individual, properly grounded branch circuit with a 3 prong grounding type receptacle, protected by a 15 or 20 amp circuit breaker or time-delay fuse. Over-the-range models should be on a dedicated circuit. Keep in touch! Sue
