Questions & Answers

Is it noisy? I've read reviews of other GE fridges being noisy.

Asked by: jc
We didn"t have a problem at all with ours. I was not home when it was delivered. The builder plugged it in and said it was loud for a very short time. Once it started to cool it was fine. VERY happy with this frig. We have had others that have been much louder.

Water dispenser

On GE's website it states this model has an internal water dispenser, but here it doesn't show one. Can you please verify which is true?
Asked by: Kaci
It is on the left wall inside. Very small, just a little tube that sits in a little indentation.

Noise. Just got it today. It works as keeping things cold and frozen but there is an intermittent sound like a mini jackhammer that lasts for a few seconds. It doesnt sound right and when it happens is loud.
Asked by: dave
I didnt hook up water line. I turned off ice maker and that was the problem. No more noise and works great. And I never intended to have water hooked up. I dont drink city water because of how hard it is so no need to make ice cubes out of it.

33 in. W 24.8 cu. ft. French Door Refrigerator in White is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 336.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not super practical We had a old GE beast with no problems so thought we'd purchase GE again. Very pretty design, my husband did not want the outside water dispenser. Apparently that the first thing to go on refrigerators. There is a nifty little indoor water dispenser. My only beef is that you cannot put Tall items in this refrigerator !!! We're a family of five and we are constantly laying down items. There is an area on the top right that you can slide the shelf to make it half shelf but that only gives room for oj or a 2 L. Wish I would've paid attention to that.,.

I read the other reviews and agree that the inside water dispenser is difficult to use and that the shelf arrangement, as the refrigerator is originally arranged, won't hold milk or other tall items. We got around that with an extension to the water dispenser and arranged the shelves as in the photo. The little shelf will hold canned drinks on their side or individual yogurt containers, leftovers, etc. After we did that, I can say I'm pleased with the fridge. I love the finish and the space in the fridge section. If we didn't have a separate chest type freezer we wouldn't have enough freezer space, but for us this space is adequate. I like the ice maker location, because I can get out as much ice as I need. My old ice dispenser would take forever and the ice container was a pain to remove. I just hope this one holds up as well as my last GE. It was over 10 years old and still going strong when I gave it to a relative. I've had this one about 2 months.

This item replaced a 36-year-old Whirlpool, 19cf, which still works but is inefficient and I wanted an icemaker and an updated kitchen. I am pretty happy with this model so far, about a week, but there are issues. -The doors are very heavy, so you have to haul on them to get them open. I understand this is due to the compartments therein, but I'm sure better balance could be engineered into the doors. Minor issue. -The bins for fruit/produce/meats absolutely SCREAM as you open them. I need to wax the runners or something to reduce the noise. Sounds like a hog killin going on, to coin a phrase (I've never killed a hog nor witnessed this activity). -The produce bins are smaller than the ones in my 19cf refrigerator and this is a problem, but we'll make do. I was hoping to keep produce fresh longer in this new model compared to the old one, but it will stay fresh because we're able to keep much smaller quantities, so it won't have a chance to go bad. Maybe this was deliberate, to get us to eat our vegetables. -The freezer drawer is hard to open, even before we put food in it or any ice was made. It may have been mentioned in prior reviews, but anyone with an impairment may be surprised. It would be wise to go to a brick and mortar store and try it out first. -The freezer compartment is TOO SMALL. When I transferred the frozen food from my 19cf freezer compartment into this one, I could not get everything in, and had to cook some meat and remove cold packs and other items that didn't strictly need to be frozen that day. I was astonished at this. The 19cf fridge was top-freezer, standard type, and when we looked at this fridge in the store the compartment seemed roomy, but when I tried to fit it all in I was't able to do so. A slightly smaller ice bin might help with this. Now when I go to the store I have to remind myself that I can't buy any frozen food, because it won't fit when I get it home. Pretty disappointed about this. -Because, ICE. I hate this current popular phraseology (bad grammar) but it fits the bill here. I have been making home-made ice myself, with ice trays, for 15 years, using a treasured and reliable recipe. I adore ice, and have a slight obsession with it. I use it all day, every day, and often purchased bagged ice (recall I had a capacious freezer compartment in my vintage Whirlpool) when I was feeling fancy. Now I have so much ice I could bathe in it. The crescents (can't call 'em cubes!) are dry and do not stick together, and it makes a TON. Honestly, even as an ice junkie, the bin could be smaller to allow more room for Outshine bars. -The interior water dispenser is a great idea, and we use it constantly. Our tap water isn't the best, and I got tired of buying bottled water, with the empties (or, worse, not quite empties) scattered all over the house. The recycling load was huge, and it is expensive. Now we all fill our glasses and water bottles with filtered water, and it is delicious. This has made a huge difference to us. Overall, I'm terrified. I just spent what I consider to be a huge amount of money on an appliance that is certain not to last anything approaching 36 years. The ice maker will fail, more than likely (did I just jinx myself?), since almost all of my closest friends have a non-functioning icemaker in their new-ish fridge. The water dispenser will suddenly get stuck ON and flood the place. The doors will stick slightly open and the HORRENDOUS alarm will go off constantly (can anyone assist me in deactivating/destroying this alarm?) I know it is a handy thing when you think you've closed the door and you didn't, but it offends me. Character flaw of mine. If you read most refrigerator reviews people, in general, are very, very unhappy. As evidenced by the superannuated Whirlpool I was replacing, I was reluctant to get a new fridge, appealing and feature-filled as they are. This one had decent reviews, by owners and experts alike, but there's a dud in every bunch, so my fingers are crossed. I am attaching a photo of this gorgeous unit. In the years to come this time period will be marked, like avocado green and harvest gold, by the color of the appliances. It may be a fad, but I like this finish so much more than standard stainless, so kudos to GE and others for making it and also not charging extra for it. As you can see in the pic, we named our freezer compartment Iceland (I am not kidding about how much I love ice) and I have some magnetic figures that help me open the doors, so we're all good. Time will tell if it lasts

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What's not to like? We bought this GE GNE25JGKWW refrigerator 3 months ago, and are very happy with it. It has a clean sleek appearance, and is so quiet you hardly know it's running! It has lots of room inside, plenty of storage draws, and the deep shelves on the doors are great. The filtered water on the inside tastes great & it's very cold. It makes plenty of ice. I really like the feature where a portion of the top shelf slides back, for storing even more tall items. The LED lights on the top & sides really look nice too, and make it so easy to spot whatever it is that your looking for inside. I can't think of anything I would change in this refrigerator.

Love this refrigerator, actually bought the whole suite - refrigerator, stove microwave and dishwasher. Was a bit nervous as to whether I would like the color but I love it and so does everyone else who sees it. I don't have the noise problems, the inside is very roomy, love the shelf that folds back for taller items. BTW all the appliances are working great. Don't hesitate to buy this.

I bought this exact model....(no ice maker on the door) from Home Depot. 1) The first one I received was a lemon. It make a loud clicking noise and had to be replaced. 2) The "slate" scratches....really, really easy. I simply was pulling a large magnet off the front and it left a large scratch. 3) The door mechanism on the left door is very touchy. You cannot put anything heavy (like a full gallon of milk for example) in the left door because when you close it, the heaviness of the door causes the hinge/panel to not work (it pops out of the groove) and it leaves a large open gap between the two doors. (that in itself is huge!) If I could return this fridge and get a different model I would in a heart beat and I urge anyone to not buy it. I love the color too - it looks FABULOUS especially in a white kitchen, but in the end it's about the refrigerator working properly, and this one doesn't cut it. Run in the other direction from this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits in a designated 33" space in my kitchen (see... Fits in a designated 33" space in my kitchen (see photo) but has more interior space than our old fridge. It cooled down quickly using the Turbo Cool - something I use whenever I bring home groceries. It has a well designed interior, though the little interior water dispenser is a bit tricky to use with my thick walled water bottle. The door shelves hold everything from small condiment bottles to juice and milk cartons; the fruit and vegetable drawers have plenty of room and humidity control; and the full width bottom drawer is great for oversize platters. The freezer has plenty of room so I can get rid of my old chest freezer in the garage. I really like the bright led lighting. I am very pleased with this refrigerator.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from If you are reading this review my guess is that you too fall into the "the opening for our fridge... If you are reading this review my guess is that you too fall into the "the opening for our fridge is too small for the size of current day refrigerators" group. I researched refrigerators for months trying to find a "non apartment" style fridge that would work. Not only were we 3/4" short of the standard 36" width, we were also 2 inches short of the 69" height that allows for a greater selection. How we solved the problem. One night after becoming increasingly frustrated by the inability to find a new fridge to replace the one we literally had duct taped together, we put reason out the window, stood on kitchen chairs and removed the "above refrigerator cabinet" that was impeding our "height" restrictions. We loaded the cabinet into the car and asked a local cabinet maker to match the cabinet exactly, just 4 inches shorter. He agreed. Height restriction solved (and seriously how often do you use that cabinet anyway?). Our kitchen design did not allow the "width" restriction to be changed without an entire kitchen redo which is what led us to this model. Color: I just do not understand the "stainless steel" appliance craze. The fingerprints that stainless allows drive me crazy. I didn't want white or black so that led me to "slate". It is fantastic. It does not show fingerprints and looks very classy in my kitchen. Love it. I just wish GE would have gone the extra mile and made the handles out of a fingerprint free material as well. But I can live with wiping those down daily. Bottom Freezer: If you have not previously had a bottom freezer let me warn you that this does take some getting used too. It does not bother me anywhere near as much as it does my husband. He hates it. I tolerate it. One issue is the HUGE ice bin which literally takes up 1/2 of the top drawer. We wouldn't use this much ice in a month and have no need for this much "available" ice. I wish GE would have reduced the size of the bin to allow more space for "quick grab freezer items". (I am attempting to find a smaller bin but no luck so far). French Doors: If you have not previously had french doors let me tell you it will take seconds to fall in love. At first I was upset that due to space restrictions I had to go with the 33" but now...I can't imagine why anyone would need to go to the 36". The 33" is huge. Full party platters, defrost a frozen turkey and it all fits with plenty of room left over for daily items. LOVE the french doors. Water dispenser: I chose the inside rather than outside water dispenser model. I don't like how much door space water dispensers take up. Bad decision. If I could take it back I would buy the outside dispenser model. Because of how roomy the french door fridge is loosing door space is no longer an issue and having to open the fridge to get water is a pain. The built in water filter is a big plus and takes up very little room. Doors failing to close: I was surprised to read that so many people have such a problem with this. The manual clearly states that the french door fridge is intentionally shipped with un-level doors. I won't go into it as you can read the manual as well as I can but clear (and easy) instructions are given on how to "re-adjust and level" the doors to allow for easy opening and closing. NOTE: Our installer did not do this for us as this step is done AFTER fridge has been filled with food.
