Questions & Answers

I was told that the water we drink will be a little salty with this system that I would need to install a water purfier under the sink is this true?

Asked by: Doll
That is not true. Yes, there is a sodium exchange happen in softening process but water is not salty and does not contain a whole lot of sodium.

Does a whole-house water softener and/or filters reduce water pressure? This concerns me because our utility district already provides only minimum water pressure -- I believe about 35 p.s.i. in the main lines -- and the district declines to increase pressure. We need one badly because my aging wife suffers from psoriasis and anything to soften our hard water could help.

Will this product plus the water filter addition fix my problem of having white residue on my dishes after i run the dish washer?

I also have a reddish brown residue inside my toilet bowls and my dogs water bowl which i think it is iron or maganese. Will this be fixed.
Asked by: Paul
Hi Paul- Softening water is accomplished by passing hard water over a "resin bed" of plastic beads that attract the minerals in the water like a magnet. Water without the hardness flows from the softener and throughout your house. The softener takes out only calcium and magnesium from the water. Also, maximum iron removal is 8 ppm. Iron present in water is measured in parts per million (PPM) and is sometimes called "rust". The total PPM of iron and the different types of iron are determined by chemical analysis. The water needs to be tested in order to know what chemicals are present in the water. The water softener will remove moderate amounts of ferrous (clear water) iron. Learn more at - WATER SYSTEMS IRON IN THE WATER: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=18865 - You'll notice the difference the first time you bathe or shower with softened water. Soft water feels noticeably smooth to the skin. It also makes your home easy to clean by reducing hard-water build-up.
