Q:My dehumidifier is set at 50 and the humidity shows 60 on the display. It does not turn on automatically. If I repower the unit it will start and then turn off again after a couple of hours. I have to restart again to make it work. Any suggestions?

Answer This Question

A:  Hi there - Thanks for reaching out to us! Once you set a level and the dehumidifier begins working it will show the actual humidity level. This means that it is not changing the set level but rather displaying the current humidity level. As the humidity in the room is removed the number will go down. For best results, place your dehumidifier near the center of the area that you wish to dehumidify. Good air circulation within an enclosed area is essential. Doors and windows should be kept closed. You should allow at least 18 inches of air space on all sides of the unit for good air circulation. Also, to properly size a dehumidifier, the location of the unit is important. A:  Just hold the "pump" button down until the light goes out, then remove the bucket.

Q:Is there a unit this size that doesn’t throw out as much heat?

A:  I honesty haven’t noticed any heat impact to my basement from this product. I would go with something smaller. The heat is needed to remove ice from the coils, part of the process of dehumidification

          by|Sep 8, 2020

A:  Not sure,, BUT the dispensing of Heat is several things. This is how the Dehumidifier is supposed to work. It will dispense both warm and cool air as it functions during the day. Otherwise the "humidity" will not be reduced as both needed and expected. If your conditions are correct, room(s) will become both cooler and more comfortable over time and Unit will function less often. A/C Unit may also work less.

          by|Sep 8, 2020

A:  Hello Tina - Thank you for reaching out about your dehumidifier. We hope it has worked well for you over the last year. Model APER50LZ is our newest unit. However, dehumidifiers use a compressor to function properly which will generate some heat. If the unit is installed correctly to exhaust outside, the heat should not be an issue. Feel free to reach out with any more questions as we are always happy to help. - JB

Dehumidifier is much quieter than previous machine. Removes a lot of moisture. The pump is a great addition, as it works perfectly. Definitely exceeded expectations. Highly recommended.

            A workhorse!!!
We had discovered a major water issue in our crawl space. Our first thought was to get a dehumidifier down there and start removing water. Any rental unit was going to be too big to get into the confined space where the water issue was; also we were going to need to run the unit for days and that was going to cost! We did a little research and figured this GE unit would do the job; most important it had a pump to empty the tank to "daylight". It took a bit of effort to get this 44 lb beastie into the crawl space and into the wet area but we got it in there, got it running and over the course of several days pumped many gallons of water out of the area. At the same time we engaged the services of a company specializing in mitigation and restoration who started the fix in the rooms above with their commercial-grade equipment. This GE de-humidifier did what we needed it to do and we are more than happy to recommend it. It should be noted that the 15 foot drain line supplied with the unit was not long enough to take the water out of the crawl space. We added an additional 20 foot, the total line running horizontally out of the crawl space, which worked just fine.

Dehumidifier, but kicks out so much heat that the basement room it is supposed to help is too warm.

Excellent at removing humidity in our finished downstairs. Pump works as desired. Relatively quiet when fan is blowing. My only concern is how low this unit will last. I had a GE 70 pt. (same model of earlier year, rating category was changed). It lasted just beyond the 1 year warranty (16 months) and then would not remove humidity. Much quieter than a more expensive Honeywell unit purchased elsewhere that I returned because the Honeywell drain pump did not work. Keeps humidity at desired setting 40%. I opted for the extended warranty.

This thing is probably over-kill for my apartment in New York, but it works great. Have been running it almost constantly 24/7 (it will auto shut off once it hits a set humidity rate and turn back on when it detects the humidity is above the threshold again) for the last 2 weeks. As far as de-humidifiers go, it's relatively quiet on the lowest setting. The wheels on the bottom are a nice touch to move it around easily and it has a reasonably long power cord (which I know some don't have). Very happy with this purchase!

13 Months Later and Will Not Turn ON
Product ran well for 13 month, purchased March 2019, and it stopped running. I have taken good care of the product cleaning bucket, filter, and line every 3 months and is in a finished basement with moderate humidity. Was running well but will not run for more than 10 minutes and the bucket is dry. Tried adjusting humidity setting and even tried the NS non-stop feature. The lights are on and no warning codes manual refers to. So if you are ok with a disposable dehumidifier at the cost $23.07/mo for 13 months this is your unit. Very frustrating to see how far GE has fallen.

Better than the Frigidaire WiFi model, still works great after a year
I bought the Frigidaire model FGAC7044U1 with WiFi controls first, and then later purchased this GE model at Home Depot. I still own both. I much prefer this GE model, despite its lack of WiFi. Its MUCH more quiet, as its fully incased and brings in air from side vents. The Frigidaire model has a full front open vent, so the noise and rattles blast out into the room. This GE model sounds like a normal fan, like a low hum versus the high pitch of the Frigidaire. I find that both work equally well in removing humidity. The built-in pump is a HUGE benefit. If this is your first dehumidifier, don't consider one without a built-in pump. Changing out a bucket 2-3 times a day gets old fast. MY ONLY BIG COMPLAINT: If power is cut off, unit does not turn back on with power restored. This means I can't use a simple WiFi outlet to control on/off remotely, like I do with other appliances like my Austin Air purifiers. If GE is reading this, please consider providing an update or work around for machine to turn back on with power from outlet. This would eliminate the WiFi advantage of the Frigidaire at no cost to you. Thanks
