Question: Is the unit supposed to blow out warm air? Bought this today to help with the high humidity. My AC cools the space however the room was so humid, I decided I needed a dehumidifier so the air wouldn't be so sticky. The brand new dehumidifier is blowing warm air. Since I turned it on 25 minutes ago, the temperature in the room has gone up 4 degrees even with the AC on full tilt. Is this normal?
Asked by: sufferinsuccotash
Yes it will blow warm air. I clicked on and opened the User and Care Manual file on the items page on Home Depot and this is what it states: It is normal for the surrounding air to become slightly warmer as the dehumidifier operates.

Can I use any hose for draining or specific hose?

Asked by: Zach
Hi Zach- A dehumidifier can be connected to a standard garden water hose so that it will automatically empty into a floor drain as water is collected. Thanks for choosing GE! Sue

Is the pump required or will the water drain through the tube by gravity?
Asked by: KawBoy
I have my hose installed proper, the bucket proper, however it will not drain. When basket is full it’s stops running, until I empty bucket. The instructions says Open the drain cover on the BACK of the unit, not sure what that means. The cover for the hose is on the side of the unit. Please help, it is driving me crazy. Thank you for any assistance

Purchased this product 1 year ago and it recently stopped collecting water. ONE YEAR?! $270 is way to much to spend on a product that lasts for 1 year. According to the manual, if the product is 1 year old or less they will send you a carton to ship your broken unit back and they will send you a new one (could be refurbished). When I called GE to submit a claim they said they now issue "Good Will Certificates" for the amount you paid MINUS sales tax. So you can take the certificate to the store, purchase a new unit and they will reimburse you. The problem is, the exact same unit, from the exact same store is $20 more this year. Which mean by the time I buy the new unit, lose the tax on the old one and get reimbursed, it will cost be $40 to replace a unit that is within the 1 year warranty. That's terrible customer service GE. If a product fails within warranty, I should receive a replacement at not cost to me. I'm tempted to not even take the replacement certificate and go with another brand. GE is junk and their warranty policy is useless.

Like another reviewer said, this dehumidifier only lasted 1 1/2 seasons before rust on the cooling coil caused the refrigerant to leak out. What a disappointment. When it worked, all of the features had me smiling. Now at the start of season 2, it's junk. What a shame. No more GE products for us... If you are considering buying a GE dehumidifier, do yourself a favor and buy something else unless you like throwing money away. You've been warned. GE, are you listening???

I purchased this unit over a year ago. It failed within the warranty period. I called GE and was told to go out and buy a new one, send in the receipt with a Certificate of Goodwill that they provided. Ok, did that.. A month later I get another certificate of Goodwill, send that one back and I am told that the purchase I made was not valid. Never heard on the original I sent. I have tried numerous times to contact GE and can not get thru to anyone who can help. Just dead air. Avoid these products if you hope to ever use the warranty

It ran well for two and a half years but I noticed it wasn't doing the job a couple months ago. Since it was out of warranty, I opened it up to see if there was anything obviously wrong. The compressor would start up and run for just a little while, overheat, and then shut off. While it was running, the coils would cool just slightly. This tells me that either the pump inside the compressor has gone bad or, more likely, there is a refrigirant leak in the system. To pay someone else to repair it would cost more than the unit. Whether it is the Chinese factory making substandard products or the GE engineers designing inferior units I cannot tell. Not like my old Sears Kenmore that lasted twenty-five years, (unfortunately, they are now made in china too.) The only real option is to buy a high-end, American made April Aire or Santa Fe brand and pay the money up front, ($800-1200), which would be cheaper in the long run. They are supposedly good for 15 to 20 years.

After reading other reviews I decided to give this unit a try. All the reviews mentioned how quiet the unit is. I have tried other companies that offer a built in pump and every one of them became really noisy after a week or so. This unit is super quiet and even standing beside it you can't tell the pump is operating. We have a condo on the beach and really need to keep the humidity under control to avoid mold in the condo. Relative humidity is down 20% or so since purchasing the unit. If you need a quiet and efficient dehumidifier that offers a pump for continuous operation I highly recommend this dehumidifier.

We live in a Northwest marine climate (Puget Sound) where the weather tends toward higher humidities year round. In the Fall to Spring seasons when we heat the house and the windows and doors are closed most of the time, we get moisture condensation on the cool inner surface of the windows if we don't dehumidify the air. ( The indoor humidity will be 70% to 75% if we don't dehumidify.) So for years we've used a 50 to 70 pint per day dehumidifier at a central point in the house to keep the indoor humidity at about 50%. There is a through-wall drain so we don't have to empty the collection bucket. We've had several brands over the years and have found that they are built very much alike and all tend to have corrosion issues around the condenser coils and compressors that will fail after 2 to 4 years of use. That used to be a little upsetting, but we've now accepted that that is what to expect from dehumidifiers in this price range. This GE dehumidifier was purchased to replace the 4 year old GE that had a compressor failure. It's very similar to the old one but is now black in color instead of white. It looks a bit better nestled in among our house plants and is slightly more quiet than the old one. Overall it's a good choice for us. We'll see if this one lasts for any more than 4 years before it fails, maybe we'll get 5 years from this one.
